There are two kinds of hard disks: - Those that have failed - Those that will fail For this reason one should, IMHO, give preference to the one with the longest warranty (= the Toshiba).
I think the first Seagate is no longer in production. If I had to buy, I would get the Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003. Sometime in 2010, I started buying WD and though the Black range was great, the green and blue is nothing superior to Seagate. I have now gradually sold my WDs and presently have 4 Seagate (3 TB and 4TB ones) and 2 WDs (3TB Greens). Seagate ST...DM models are superior performing to WD Blue/Green. I reckon warranty levels are the same and both are prehaps giving refurbished on RMA. Never tried Toshiba.
I'd go with Seagate (4xST31000524AS here) or Toshiba (2xDT01ACA100 too), wouldnt touch WD drives even with a 10ft pole, overrated pos drives.
