All of my old machines are 10 Pro. New machine is 10 Home, would like to switch to 10 Pro purely for Hyper-V and RDP. I cannot transfer the digital licences from old machines - mobo failures or cannibalised and haven't enough parts to hand to bring back online. Is there a way to authenticate 10 Pro as a proper authentication, remaining on insider releases without a) being noticed and b) spending £120. Feel like I should be able to port the licence seeing as I have had at least 6 machines running 10 Pro since it's release.
What is the purpose of disconnecting from the internet, if the machine is going to reconnect to the internet after entering the key? Does home update to Pro while disconnected? Then reconnect to internet afterwards?
In some scenarios it will refuse to upgrade when connected, there is no need for being connected for upgrading from home to pro. Here are some of my practical tests: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/win-10-home-to-education-n.80242/#post-1546618 https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...-windows-10-in-new-laptop.79964/#post-1536523 https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...-have-win-10-pro-built-in.77903/#post-1462048 https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/help-win-10-home-single-lang-to-pro.77855/#post-1460305 notice the internet not being connected. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...icrosoft-products.28669/page-646#post-1351857 (here was a scenairo that worked when still online, in june 2017).
Thank you, thank you, thank you. It took a while to find what I was looking for, but once I found what I was looking for it was all very straight forward. Much appreciated!
I need to change to Pro also to get Hyper-V but am unable to have the instructions above work for me. I have a prebuilt HP with Win 10 Home - so VL. When I try putting the serial in, it tells me it is unable to upgrade. I'm on x64, 1909 build 18363.476. TIA!
Disconnect from the net and type the generic key for pro version. Answered many times. So browse the forum to find it.
OK, you even quoted me where I said "When I try putting the serial in, it tells me it is unable to upgrade." Basically, I have tried that and it didn't work. I do know how to browse/search the forum and I already did try, which is how I found this thread. But, again, it doesn't work
The Generic key for Windows Pro or any other version you might want is located in Product.ini simply change key as indicated @ settings --> Activation --> Change product key.
I did it personally about two days ago and everything works great. A few minutes and all is done. I just bought a new laptop with the pre-installed Home version.
coleoptere2007 - I owe you an apology. You were right. The desktop had Wifi and even though I disconnected the LAN cable, it switched immediately over to WiFi, which was causing the install error. I was sitting in the living room, remembered about wifi, ran into the computer room, turned off wifi and it worked. Thanks!
It's on this page, a few posts up https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/10-home-to-10-pro.80657/#post-1561927
