i'm running windows 7 64bit and not having any trouble. i'm using rocketdock and regularly download themes from microsoft.
For any modern computers, 64-bit is essential. The simplest and quickest argument pro 64-bit is memory. A reasonable modern computer these days have at least 4gb of ram and a 1gb video card, and on 32-bit that would leave you with about 2.75GB of usable main memory. These days 8gb of RAM is becoming pretty standard, as well as 2gb video cards. If you ran 32-bit on that, you'd be restricted to only 1.75gb of usable system RAM! Programs that don't support 64-bit these days are either old or have poor support.
