Congrats, you guys! Seems like you now can give yourself a pat on the shoulder Thread sticky on request by Yen.
Hi everyone. Im new here, last week I ordered HP 6735s notebook. After one day of discussions with reseller / distributer / MS I was hoping they will let me know if/how can I install Vista 64 bcs they only ship with 32bit. They pissed me off totally, nobody knew exactly, MS send me to dealer, dealer said I should talk to distributer, they sent me back to MS... so I said phuck off, Im not paying for Vista and I went 4 FreeDos. Then I found lots of claims that HP notebooks have "BIOS protection against non-genuine Vista"??? I did some research and found your forum. Anyway, to make long story short: my HP was delivered today, I installed Vista Ultimate 64 (MSDN release), used WoW 5 MBR version and it works like a charm you guys rock!
I just tried the nombr wow5 out on my iMac. Works perfectly on VMWare Fusion but has a major issue with BootCamp. It just hangs at: "probed C/H/S = 80/2/18, probed total sectors = 2880" I suspect that it's got something to do with the IMG menu.lst. Hopefully someone can help me out with this problem. *note: i couldn't get the mbr one to work because grldr was too big to insert into my mbr.
What exactly is your boot config? Boot camp boots either Vista or OS X, no other OS? I think you have to plan a boot chain without boot camp. My suggestion: Use original Vistabootloader instead of boot camp and make an entry to boot Mac OS X using easybcd...make sure OS X partition is set active (at Vista right-click on My Computer > Manage. Go to the Disk Management area, and be sure that the OSX partition is set as active on the harddrive ) Are you familiar with using bootloader? I've never tried MAC OS so far. Another way could be to use grub to boot either to Vista or to OS X title OSx86 at (hd0,0) root (hd0,0) makeactive chainloader --force +1
Hello Did anybody try to use it on new F.0B/F.0C BIOS on HP 6720s ? After F.09 they introduced some kind of new protection and previous versions od WOW failed. Is it true ? And does the new version work again ? I can't try myself because on HP downgrade of BIOS is impossible and I don't want to risk and stay on F.0B :/
Larus: I can not answer that at the moment. If you can provide an ACPISCOPE report .ats file from the new BIOS, I can look into it. The latest WOW5 has the most options then any older version so its worth giving it a test drive. blazko: Whats your BIOS version?
This feedback I've got via PM. Regarding latest 6720s bios, AFAIK they have removed the 'empty SLIC'. IMO WoW5 should work. But my advice to you anyway is not to update bios if you don't need to. A filled up SLIC via patch is the best way you can get..... Even though I would like to know if WoW5 really works at latest bios. Anyone tried it already?
Softmod vs. WOW Where is the diffrence to Vista loader? Both emulates a Floppy and patches ACPI tables in RAM.
Almost right. Since the source of grldr is available, the Vistaloader guys have integrated the SLIC and the code to patch the ACPI tables into the grldr (grub bootloader). They don't use a floppy-emulation! I don't know what it exactly does. We've developed an independent approach not caring about Vistaloader. Fact is that Vistaloader doesn't work with some bioses, especially some Compaq / Dell while WoW works. Some bios programmer have already reacted to Vistaloader....and prevented it to work..... WoW5 is still new and we are waiting for more results. Please post any result here, thanks. As said at thread title it's probably the better alternative.... Only cosmetically disadvantage is that it's not yet completely invisible at boot....also Vistaloader has got multi OEM SLIC already. To change the SLIC at WoW you have to hexedit the img, but it's possible as well. IMO WoW should keep its experimental touch........
