A quick question about WMC; assuming i have the Pro retail and upgraded the edition and flags with dism to WMC, is there any pros and cons at all to downloading the "official" WMC esd from the store? I assume the dism created version is completely fine, but wondered if MS did anything spectacular under the hood for the esd that i can't do manually. Things like size difference, license\eula files, leftover files, /resetbase, etc.
It's hard to know exactly what differences are there between our handmade images and them. But I think M$ should exactly know how to make an official master media and they should make the image as clean as possible. I guess they did update all images including boot.wim and winre.wim, resetbase/recapture for completing pending actions, update localized setup files also, etc. So they should be better in most cases as far as the image size and leftover files concerned. As you say, it's "official" media offered to Windows 8 users as upgrade, I would prefer just using it as baseline. If you take the MSDN ISOs as trusted source media, why not do the same for the Store ESDs?
That's my reasoning too. I figure if i have the luxury of using an official image i may as well. I guess i just didn't want to waste my time downloading something i already have. The CoreSingleLanguage image however is greatly appreciated.
Excellent work detective abbodi1406. Yes those wondering... this is the method used to create the iso files I posted for CoreSL, though with an actual CoreSL system you might want to use the install.esd method since you can also use it for a small push-button reset image.
if the machine came with a single language (OEM) key in bios, you cannot activate by simply installing a core version. You need to setup the appropriate windows version to get it activated using the key in bios
perhaps the Dell box had core (not SLV) on board when it was shipped. Afaik Dell went some strange ways in the past which differed sometimes to what was usually done
wrong version and where is the 17050 version? immediately after installation - 9600.17031 after installing updates from WU - 9600.17041 View attachment 28233 View attachment 28234 View attachment 28235
ignore that version number on the file name. It's the same version as the Win81 with update msdn isos.
