    First thing I noticed from the picture in the main post is that it isn't just a PC/tablet OS anymore.
    It's also on the phone, Xbox and even the Galileo boards of Intel.

    If you think about it, Window 8.1 was the ninth release of Windows.

    Yea, clever move I think, it completely leaves 8.x as an old non related OS version

    They finally fixed up the numeration. From the customer’s perspective, Windows 8 was the ninth NT release. 3.1, 3.5, 3.51, 4, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8.
