Anyone know how to extract a Dell bios from the ****.exe?? How to modify the ROM?

    anyone know how to extract a Dell bios from the ****.exe?? I tried universal extractor, winrar, etc etc... none work, seems the .exe is embedded within a visual ++ program of some kind....

    I have a dell 531s (slim model)......

    I thought you couldn't mod Dell BIOS files anyway..

    Yen, if we can extract the bios file, can we also extract the flasher that Dell uses with the rom (a Dell phoenix bios file)? I have been trying to work with different flashers and they all seen to corrupt the bios file?

    yup I am totally lost, lol, tried various bios tools posted here, I made a backup of my current bios, I see the 2.1 marker you gave me but dunno what to do with it, oh my, guess I'll have to post in the requests section:(

    I don't know much about Dell-Phoenix. The biosfile seems gzip compressed (*.gz), what about to use tools like PE explorer?

    yup, well it said flashing, then it verified......

    ok, gotta try this again looks like, what do I have to do? lol, please don't mention the word floppy drive as I don't have one, haha

    You need to make a bootable USB stick, since urie has a Dell too, please ask him for advice. I have to go now. See you tomorrow...

    Dell 1525 2.0 to 2.1 SLIC

    Planning on an upgrade to Win7 so a 2.1 slic is called for.

    Currently my Dell 1525 bios has a 2.0 swapped SLIC (public marker is first). My thinking is :

    extract the hdr file using : 1525_A16.exe -writehdrfile
    Overwrite the SLIC in the image with the 2.1 SLIC found on the forum
    Calculate the checksum in the header and insert in the file
    gzip to bios.gz
    write bios using : 1525_A16.exe -readgzfile

    A feq questions come to mind :-

    Can I overwrite a swapped SLIC (public marker is first) with a standard SLIC and will it work?

    Do the above steps look about right :)
