    Hi,

I'm using a legal copy of Windows 8 which comes with my Asus Laptop.

How may I upgrade from 8 to 8.1 free?

    Regards.

Simply wait a Week and install via Windows Store.

On Installation Screen Just Select Upgrade and you don't Need To Reactivate.
Or Do Clean Installation of Windows 8.1 And Go With Online Activation or Phone Activation.

If it's possible upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1 via Windows Update, I'll wait 1 week :)
    Thanks for all replies!

VL systems I am pretty sure will not get free updates. If you have a retail channel either Core or Pro, you should be fine. We all will know in a few days ;)

Possibly, if not there will be the GA 8.1 ISO's (if they do place new ISO's with Rollup A on MSDN) that you can mount and run setup to upgrade 8 and 8.1 RTM to, or simply get the updates from windows update. we are talking about ~350mb for the downloads. X86 will be smaller. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a download for just the Rollup A as well.

I don't know if it is a volume licenced one but it is a legit one if your laptop came with windows 8, so i don't see the reason why you couldn't do an upgrade to 8.1 :)

    (OP)
Details from my legit Windows which came with my new laptop shown below:
    Code:
    Name: Windows(R), Core edition
Description: Windows(R) Operating System, OEM_DM channel
    Family: Core
    Validity: Valid
Product Description: Win 8 RTM Core OEM:DM
    Edition Type: Core
    Key Type: OEM:DM
    Eula: OEM
so I'm gonna do this right now:
    - Download Windows 8.1: nl_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707297.iso
    - Burn it via Windows 7 Download tool
    - Upgrade my Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 with a Windows 8.1 CORE Key
    - Once everything will be completed: Change the key to my original Windows 8 Core key.
    - Active.
am I correct? Shall I get a legit copy after I follow above steps?

Just let everyone know that everything went fine.
    - Downloaded Windows 8.1 Original DVD iso: nl_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707297.iso
    - Burned DVD via Windows 7 USB Tool
    - Upgraded in Windows 8 (Insert DVD > Click on Setup.exe): Used a Windows 8 Core Key
    - I disabled Internet connection while upgrade.
    - Once everything was finished, I changed the key to my original windows 8 key via slmgr.vbs -ipk
    - I activated windows via PC Settings.

    Everything is OK! :)
