I'm wondering will my location / IP address be recorded on the Proxy server after use. What I actually mean is that, I don't want my IP address to be tracked by any website, so I connect to the Internet using a Proxy server. I have to enter a Proxy address in Internet Options. After that, I can visit any webpage as an anonymous. How about a Proxy server itself? Will the users' IP addresses be recorded? How safe is it? I've been using AutoHideIp for quite a long time and I get the logic. But I still doubt the answers for the questions above. Extended question: If NO is the answer, so can I say the worldwide hackers can never be caught when they are using Proxy servers to commit crimes? If still NO, so what are the limitations of a Proxy server to a hacker?
Nobody carrying an IP is essentially anonymous. Everything on the Internet should be traced back to its original source. I am quite certain that proxy services keep logs too. Whether they disclose those or not, probably depends of the severity of the situation, their terms of use and the country in which they reside. If someone uses a proxy for a malicious act, the proxy could be forced by law to comply and provide evidence in order to trace the attacker. Which is something they don't always succeed The only way for you to surf real anonymously is to physically use a shared computer or a stolen computer in a place there are no cameras and you haven't been seen by anyone... Unless you have very good reasons for asking such questions, I don't really think that anyone would be willing to go into such an extend just for tracking you
Okay, so here's some info that might help.. Take it all with a grain of salt. 1) To me, Proxy = s**tty version of a VPN (use VPN instead). The reason why I say that is because I have been researching for proxies / vpn's a lot in the past few days and most proxy programs, for example, BTGaurd, ect ect are flawed because they use their open proprietary bulls**t clients, that don't actually encrypt all traffic and might have security flaws. Although, I understand how convenient it is to browser the internet at full speed, while using a proxy to secure only what you want it to secure. Warning: if you already use a proxy, CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR TRAFFIC THROUGH IPV6 IS PROTECTED, better yet disable IPv6 (A lot of proxy programs have this flaw, most just tell you to turn off ipv6) 2) Using VPN instead: Why? Because a LOT of companies out there use VPN to tunnel traffic between their servers, ie. ITS TRIED AND TEST, SECURE. What to look for? A VPN website that uses OpenVPN software, or Window's own VPN (not encrypted) , because both of these technologies are well tested and well supported. Most IMPORTANT FACTOR: Find a site to TRUST! a) If you are just looking for a VPN or Proxy to keep you anonymous while dealing with banking, or to surf porn sites, then there are a lot of companies you can trust. b) IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE USING YOUR PROXY/VPN FOR TORRENTING / COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT then use a company that will STICK UP FOR YOU. READ the LEGAL STATEMENTS/READ THEIR POLICIES ABOUT TORRENTS/READ THEIR POLICIES ABOUT DATA RETENTION! A good site, even though my Credit Card was refused when I tried to sign up with them is, vpntunnel.se, their policies will protect you, read and understand what info they save, what info they will hand over to authorities and under what circumstances they will hand over that information. ps. BTgaurd is a proxy service used by a lot of people, I didn't like their bulls**t proxy program, they also do to protect ipv6 info ect ect. but if you disable ipv6 they seem OK Anyways, Good luck.
They track back through MAC address of your communication card. All servers log MAC addresses, because ip address is not static. Proxy was designed to manage traffic, not to hide someone.
Well, thanks for all the detailed and brief answers! Yesterday I had such thought of hackers work and I thought about Proxy servers. Originally I expect to get short answers but out of my expectation, you are so good at typing !
I dunno if it´s really secure, you have to trust your proxy server. I wouldn´t do that, because you never know.
