Hello mates, Could someone please guide me to get my hands on moded bios for Acer (Aspire) 4710. Thanks
Thanks venu for a quick reply... Yes i have acer aspirre 4710 but dont know about BIOS version. I need to check it with Everest? isint? PS: I just checked the above posted moded bios and it need to be flashed in DOS mode. can u please help me to get my hands on executable bios moding. I moded my dell inspiron very easily, can i have that type of executable file? or i have to flash in DOS only
What i meant was that as per the acer support site, the latest bios version for acer aspire 4710 is 1.18. To check your current bios, yes you can use everest. Otherwise, in "Run" command box, just type "msinfo32.exe" and a window will pop up in which you can see Bios version/date. Its safer to flash in dos. Do the following: 1. Unzip the file you downloaded above. In that folder is a sub-folder called "How to Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive". read it carefully and follow the instructions to make a bootable usb drive. 2. Then look into the sub-folder called "Modified Bios and Original Bios and Utlities" and rename your modified bios file VLV-118_SLIC.WPH to VLV-118.WPH. 3. In the same folder, locate the file called phlash16.exe. Copy the two files i.e. phlash16.exe and VLV-118.WPH (this is your renamed mod bios) to the bootable flash drive you created in step 1. 4. Then boot from usb drive and at command prompt type: phlash16 /x /s /mode=3 /pn VLV-118.WPH Hit <Enter> Thats it, your flashing will start, let it run. It might reboot on its own, otherwise you'll need to reboot manually. Before flashing make sure that you have disabled all loaders and usb boot is enabled in your bios. You may need to put usb boot at the top of the boot priority list.
The one from the acer website does not have SLIC 2.1. That is why you are here on this forum Download from the link that you found on this forum. Then follow the steps i gave above. The oldest version for your model on the acer support site is 1.10 dated 2008/12/08. When did you last update your bios?
OHH OKKK Thanks venu for being so supportive... I have tried DAZ Loader and remove WAT both NOW Do i need to remove it or just flashing with new BIOS will erase all previous bios? I am trying to make my usb drive as u guided me. Thanks
I formated my usb drive and located winimage folder. and copied phlash16 and BIOS.WPH in USB drive after making it bootable. Now i need to ask that what command i need to type? phlash16 /x /s /mode=3 /pn BIOS.WPH OR phlash16 /x /s /mode=3 /pn VLV-118.WPH Coz the file name is changed i suppose... Also is this important that the winimage should be in the same laptop which is going to be flashed .I placed winimage in E drive of my acer .. please help with command... and also after booting from USB how to enter in cmd? so that i can enter that command phlash16 /x /s /mode=3 /pn BIOS.WPH
Ok, my bad just rename the BIOS.WPH i sent you to VLV-118.WPH Winimage is meant to make the usb drive bootable. Once that is done, you no longer need to have it on your computer. Boot from usb drive. You will see a command prompt there. That is not the windows cmd. you have to this at the command prompt that shows up when you boot from usb. Type this phlash16 /x /s /mode=3 /pn VLV-118.WPH
I made my usb but its not detecting I changed the pripority from bios to USB FDD but it boot to my os then i changed and tried with USB HDD again it boot to my OS I tried with USD CD and USB key but none worked also tried to flash with WINPHLASH but it all the time system shutdowm and a BSOD said due to serious damage system need to be shutdown. Now what thanks for ur support venu...
Flashing from within windows is a bad idea. that is why i had given you directions only for the dos flash. In any case, to clear up this mess do the following. 1. Download the BIOS from the manufacturer’s site, preferably the version that worked originally. 2. Burn ONLY the .FD file to the CD. 3. Remove the Battery and Power Cable from the laptop. 4. Open the CD Drive with a Pin (Push a pin into the hole on the drive to force an eject) 5. Put the CD with the original .FD BIOS file into the drive. 6. Hold the FN and ESCAPE keys down. 7. Plug the MAINS LEAD ONLY into the laptop. 8. Press the power button whilst still holding the keys. a. This will FORCE the computer to load the .FN file from the CD and write it to the BIOS of the machine. 9. The laptop will power up, you can release the keys; leave the laptop for 20-30 minutes if needed. 10. The computer will turn itself off once complete. 11. Re-insert the battery, power on the laptop. Edit: are you able to boot into your machine?
