    Hello,

    I have the following:

-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : Acer 5315 (ICL50)
    -Bios Version : 1.17, Rev. 3.0
-Bios Type : Insyde H2O (darn...)
    -Bios Link : ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5315/vista/Bios/

I want to make the cooling fan to run continuously, because there's a prb. with it: the laptop gets burning hot, and shuts down; the fan doesn't seem to start to cool down the laptop; it's working and all, but not when it should :( . Anyway i read that there is a option in bios do disable smart fan control or smthin. related to that, but there are no options in my bios; its just very, verrrry basic: just some info, boot order and a password here and there.

I tried to flash it from usb thumb, but no combo of keys at start doesn't seem to start the process; although i didn't try to flash it from windows, because i'm too afraid, because of all the horror stories i read these past days about that.

Anyway if you guys know a way to flash it/ unlock it/ or just make the darn cooler run continuously, please let me know

    Thank you,
    Mokael

Has the notebook done this since it was first purchased? If not, you may want to consider getting a can of compressed air and blowing out all of the dust, and replacing any low-quality thermal paste that may have been used with Arctic Silver.

It looks like Version 1.45 is the newest available for your model. I ran it through Jakob Heinemann's j-bios.py tool, and it doesn't look like there's any hidden menus to unlock. It's possible, though not particularly likely, that one of the BIOS updates since Version 1.17 enabled a hidden menu.

Either way, you'll probably want to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version, as it might solve your problem, and could include

To flash Version 1.45, follow these steps:

    1. Using 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/), extract the CL50145A.fd file from http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_v1.45.zip?acerid=633643224971827506&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%205315&OS=702&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=EMEA_27
    2. Using 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/), extract the FLAs**t.EXE file from http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/manuals/acer/0000/documents/AS1_BIOS_3309.zip
    3. Using Rufus (http://rufus.akeo.ie/), format a USB thumb drive with FAT32 and FreeDOS
    4. Copy the CL50145A.fd and FLAs**t.EXE files to this USB thumb drive
    5. Boot from this thumb drive. At the DOS prompt, type:
      Code:
      FLAs**t.EXE CL50145A.fd

    Good luck!

Yep, that did it; however no other options appeared, same old super basic info and stuff.
Hopefully the fan runs as its supposed to.
