I need to mount my backups as virtual HDD in win7. Now i must convert *.tib files to *.vhd, because *.tib can mount only Acronis software. And converting process takes toooo long and vhd files are much bigger.

I´ve tried ATIH 2009 build 9770 on Win7 RC and it installs just fine, but has limited functionality. For example it´s not possible to mount .tib images as drives, gives error message so i would not say it´s compatible. Same goes for O&O Diskimage Pro 4.0.191 (similar program to ATIH), also limited functionality under Win7.

And IF you got the 100 mb system partition at install (only happends if you allow the installer to partition your hdd) i have no clue if a backup from bootable rescue-CD will ever work?

I found that in Windows 7 you can mount VHD files as virtual HDD without third party soft, with builtin diskpart utility. If someone want, i made a reg file, which add option for mount and unmount VHD files to rightclick menu. I converted my acronis images to VHD files and using this.

Is there a built-in method to mount iso images to virtual CD/DVD drives. In other words, is there a built-in alternative to MagicDisk?

Why using Acronis software? There is no official release/build, that supports Windows 7. The internal imaging backup tool works perfect for me.
