Have Vista Ultimate with ASUS SLIC 2.0 and matching cert. Has been going perfect for a long time. Flahsed bios with SLIC 2.1 and Asus again to keep consistency. Win Vista booted up and screen was black saying activation needed. slmgr etck, etc. certificate was accepted and Windows says it is activated BUT screen is black and the left down corner says that is not genuine though is activated !!!!!!! Why did I put SLIC 2.1, because I want to put 7. I am doing this now but do not know what the hell is going to happen. Anyone came to this same problem?
check the date on your bios! it has probably been reset to it's manufactured date when you flashed! this can sometimes cause a problem with activation and validation
Thanks, in theory the BIOS date is today since it is when I moded, or that is a different date? I have just finished installing WIN 7 and all is perfectly well ! No idea why it did that with Vista but now is all new and Vista is no more in the system. Started clean with 7
Yeah, but I have 7 machines here. Mine is old P4B533 Asus with Pentium IV and 2 gigs and Vista Ultimate runs like a charm. Since I have not time to do backups did my kids that want the latest, as usual. By the way, back to the original problem, if I had a legit machine with Vista and 6 months later I put a new Bios revison then what could happen? There must be another explanation. Something does not click, somehow. How come it said activated but non genuine, would it write something on the registers when firstly installed?
MYSTERY RESOLVED ! Lucky I did have a March 2009 backup of the Bios with SLIC 2.0, why? Because I then could use ANDYP AMI SLIC tool version 1.40 to check and verify. Within that Andy tool there are certs an ASUS and ASUS-NEW. The old Bios mod SLIC 2.0 verifies with ASUS cert and NOT with the ASUS-NEW. The today's mod Bios SLIC 2.1 ONLY verifies with ASUS-NEW. That is why. Not sure then why WIN vista said succesfully installed and activated but non genuine since ASUS-NEW does not pass Andy tool verify. I am stubborn, like Medic911 says something about opportunity...........
Happy to see great Zort here ! Thanks ! Yeah I knew that with the verify but Win Vista would not re activate again. That is the part that I cannot get. Though I was planning to clean the machine for WIN 7 and did the re boot to test and learn, ending with black screen, injecting the ASUS-NEW cert and going to System where it says Acitvated but screen black and non genuine. I cannot get that.
Maybe you just needed to re-install the Vista key in Vista after the new Cert - there may have been some sort of mismatch. When people dual boot with a Win 7 loader they have to manually re-install Cert and Vista key in Vista to keep it happy. Just a thought.
Rosco, thanks. Yeah something is weird. I knew about dual boot but could not find the theads. Now Vista is gone and 7 taken place and all is sweet. It is just that I always try to find the explanations. Never saw Vista properly activated (as Systen says) but black screen ans saying is not genuine at the same time.God knows what other bugs might be there.
