Greetings all! I know that this can be done with the Explorer Patcher and with another Tray-something program, but ideally, I'd like to do it with either a registry entry or something similar, as you no longer have the right-click menu option from the taskbar (M$ screwing things up again!) BTW, I'm also switching back to the Classic Start Menu. Thanks! --- DS
I could be wrong but don't count on Microsoft leaving anything in the system that lets you do what you want. I think you were referring to true launch bar.
Never heard of "true launch bar" - the instructions I found for switching back to the Classic Start Menu (new reg Dword value), did not work. I don't like having my icons "pinned", I like the very functional Quick Launch. The removed it in Win10, but you could still right-click on the TASKBAR and select TOOLBARS > Add New Toolbar, and then put - %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch I found other websites that indicate a similar process (just a slightly different path), but I have NO right-click options other than TASKBAR SETTINGS & TASK MANAGER available. :~( Edition Windows 11 Pro Education Version 24H2 OS build 26100.2605 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.36.0
Ok, UPDATE! I read a couple of posts that indicated that they ARE bringing this functionality - and SMALL ICONS, back to Win 11 - supposed to already be in the CANARY & one other build. Can anyone running one of them confirm? Thanks!
Unfortunately, Microsoft made major changes to Explorer.exe in Windows 11 and it cannot be fixed with just registry settings. That's why Explorer Patcher exists -- you have to patch explorer.exe and put back the stuff that Microsoft changed. I wish Microsoft wouldn't do stupid stuff like that, but they did.
Unless you're using Enterprise or Education versions of v22H2, you could update to v23H2 still more reliable and less bugs than 24H2. But that's up to you.
