Anyone know how to add one to the vmware bios? I need to for testing purposes.

As I understand it, the activation info is not in the bios. It activates over the internet or by phone if you need to use phone. The way it does it is by matching the key on file at MS to the hardware. There's some slop for people that swap out a card or two, but not enough that strangers could use it.

No yeah I know that. I just want to add it to the VM bios so that I can test whether or not the AIO I am going to make will pull the key/install the correct edition.

I'm curious about that as well since I don't have a laptop that came with win8 to test with...

Is the hardware in all vmware not always the same?

Read this; we can't access the licensing server.

Its NOT always the same I would say cause of the various updates to vmware. 8.0 could be slightly different to 9.0.
And what Tito is say is that OEM: DM keys (the ones I need to add to the vmware bios) are paired with a hash on MS servers that the OEM provides to MS so that no one shares the keys in the bios and gets away with it.

One could in theory add a retail key to a Windows 8 install in vmware and share the vmwares files so that multiple instances of it are running but its unknown if the activation would intact when it shows up from so many different IP's.
