I'm looking for opinions to get a good alternative to Microsoft Office suite.

My son needs to get Office documents from school and work them this way:
    • Download MSOffice Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents
    • Edit such files and upload in the same MS formats: docx, xlsx and pptx

In other words, the alternative must be highly compatible with MS Office.

I don't mind whether is paid or free.

    Any comment is very welcomed.

Depends on needs. Perhaps free analogues in a browser will suffice. From Microsoft itself, from Google.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
Trying a couple of Word docx documents and they are deformed when opened with alternative software.
    Grrrr

Install office starter (free, word+excel only) AND libre office, both combined takes less space than a fully fledged Office, and gives you flexibility and compatibility

Installed Microsoft 365 Education (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) using YAOCTRIR
It took 2.70 Gb from my SSD, just for testing...
