I never use app-store or Google-store, and it always is a bit of work to find other places to download an app.

Do you guys have any suggestions for the best websites for that?

    THanks

APK Mirror has APK files which are verified by admins and the site is very reliable.

You could also use Aptoide (aptoide . com) as a replacement of Play Store.
The client is Open Source (as F-droid mentioned above) but you can also find closed-source apps (nearly every app you could find on the Play Store), just make sure the repository is legit (use the official Aptoide Apps one or any other with the green (approved) tick.

    1mobile

    Try 1mobile market @ 1mobile dot com.

I ROOT all my phones/devices and use ROOT Uninstaller to freeze all google stuff (You might need them later - you can then unfreeze) then I install 1mobile market. It has most of the apps verified by google without using google.

I don't use the big G AT ALL - definitely DO NOT pass any $$ through there - find & sideload any app I want.
    Result:
No problems & keeping big G as much out of my tech life as possible.
    Works for me.
