I read that LTSB only gets Security updates, but what about bug fixes for the supported features and components? I think I saw quite a few of them in Cumulative Update listings. I know LTSB does not get new features, but Anniversary Update for Current Branch added WDDM 2.1 support, which provided support for HDR. Did WDDM 2.1 apply to LTSB? Is there a way to check?
LTSB primarily receives security updates and bug fixes for the current features. Microsoft is very selective of what updates LTSB receives. I have LTSB installed and can "checK" what you're seeking if given instruction as to how (For example, do you know how to check the WDDM version?).
Yeah this is even true for small features like the new editable address bar added to regedit in build 1703 and later.
As far as I know, the LTSB version is the same as the normal Enterprise version except it doesn't get feature updates, doesn't have metro apps or Edge and Cortana is turned off by default, but is there nonetheless.
Thank you so much! One negative aspect of LTSB is that it still uses Pagefile for processes like Explorer.exe, which causes Hard Pagefaults that increase process latencies. You can easily test it with LatencyMon. Regardless of whether original MS image is used or updated or butchered or tweaked or non-tweaked, LTSB always has Hard Pagefaults in LatencyMon, even on a rig with 16GB of RAM, while Creator's Update NEVER shows any, regardless of whether there is Pagefile or not, tweaked or not, etc. Hopefully feature-less Creator's Update for LTSB will include the feature to keep everything in RAM... Maybe its LatencyMon - not sure...
@MonarchX On guru3d froums people are complaining about the creators update and latency messured with latencyMon so never heard any complaints on LTSB about it and for the pagefile even the Creators update need an pagefile I had it dissabled and the whole system freezed on big games because the RAM was getting full so go figure.
You can disable pagefile if you don't have programs that can allocate over the installed RAM. I have only 8GB and i disable pagefile for regular use, browsing, movies, music, light gaming. Some games like Mass Effect Andromeda will freeze when it want to access more than the RAM i have, which i read that game can use up to 13GB on a 16GB system.
