So i just installed WHS 2011 and have it all activated and everything. Just installing some core apps and wanted to install a basic free anti-virus on it. Wanted to install Microsoft Security Essentials but could not get it to go, complaining about windows version .

So anyone know of a good free one or how i can just install Micraosoft Security Essentials?

If you can find forefront endpoint protection - also called forefront client security - (maybe on Pirate Bay - down now) use that, but you must locate the installer on the DVD.

hmm i want free protection hat will not cause headaches with network shares and that's why i wanted to stay with MSE. I can get forefront using MSDN so not an issue. Based on the link from Tito all definitions will get updated with windows update?

Reason I ask is I have turned off updates and will do them manually rather then staying up to date, but it worried about AV definitions.

Also what is the difference between MSE and forefront? one is Home use and the other Business?

Yes, forefront is for business, but you could be using only the client part, locating the x64 installer. And forefront get definition-updates more or less every day.

BTW, the name has changed from Forefront with the latest release; it's now "System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection" (scepinstall.exe), and it's part of System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.

Forefront Client Security is good AV solution for all Server Products :) Don't use any desktop Antivirus.
