avast! Home Edition, is free works on all OS i,e, x86 x64 as for firewall it comes with windows same as others just need no know how to use it.

P.S. This is coming from someone who normally uses symantec anti virus corp. I do unattended just for family and friends i don't want to be swapping xp/vista/windows 7 dvd to suit what virus Checker works as I said avast works on all.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is the best Antivirus+Anti Spyware+Firewall suite. I dont think NOD or Avast can reach its power!

Eset is great for viruses, but not for malware.
I recommend Kaspersky 2010 or Avira.

Avira has one of the best detection rates out there for awhile, according to AV comparatives.

Kaspersky incorporates HIPS technology within its anti-virus software.
HIPS is why Kaspersky is the best. If you set up kaspersky correctly (applying user notification on new application control), it is basically impossible to get a virus.

For more information, I use the website: remove-malware.com
Has reviews and discusses stuff like HIPS, etc.

    Go with KIS.

Just as light as NIS, maybe even lighter, but better protection rate.

Enterprise editions of symantec and mcafee are way better and less resource intensive than any of the consumer versions.

Apparently genuine555 isn't talking about Kaspersky 9.0.0.736... which fixed the leaks.
Kaspersky is one of the lightest according to Av-comparatives.

Kaspersky is much better than avast and very light.
I would pick MSE over Avast.

Instead of people's bull s**t, just look at the facts at:
    Av-comparatives, virusbtn and virus.gr

    1. G DATA 2009 20.0.2.1 - 98,89%
    2. F-Secure 2009 9.00.148 - 98,72%
    3. Kaspersky 2010 9.0.0.463 - 98,67%
    4. AntiVir 9.0.0.381 Premium - 98,64%
    5. ZoneAlarm Antivirus 8.0.400.020 - 98,62%
    6. AntiVir 9.0.0.407 Personal - 98,56%
    7. Ashampoo 1.61 - 98,48%
    8. MultiCore 2.001.00036 - 98,36%
    9. Paretologic 6.1.1 - 98,11%

As you can see in this thread :

    http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/12073?highlight=explorer+slow&page=2

KIS 2010 (read : 9.0.0.459) actually IS a resource hogg, and DOES slow down explorer for one. I didn't say it was bad, just slows down some stuff, and the allthough it's FW also is one of the better (HENCE I put it among the good ones), it's not that effective and straight-forward in setting up sets of rules. That's why I think it's not that usefull. Nothing commerial (be it free or not) compares to comodo when dealing with FW protection.
There are business-level FW's and suites that are a whole different story, like we're using in the work environment, but they don't apply here.

If you should read up on what is matousec, and what do they stand for, u will realise they're not selling any bulls**t. On the contrary. Read up on the site and you will see what kind of testing level is used to acquire those results, AND what kind of effect they have on the vendors reactions to them...

EDIT : if what u see at matousec.com aren't FACTS, then I don't know what is...
