most searches come up with old threads, so I'm wondering if a good firewall has been updated properly for use with Win 7. I want one that will filter everything unless I direct it to pass through, in or out. I don't use an anti virus program either, just Malwarebytes and Sandboxie. I use to use Zone Alarm Pro for Win XP. That and Comodo don't seem be as good anymore in relation to they have been in the past, a small footprint, no suite, easy uninstall, etc..
    any suggestions ? Thanks

Try comodo firewall. i personally use it and its best so far yet. you can customize things as per your needs and its not really annoying and remembers your answer. You can also run program in sandbox and best of all its free for home use.

I don't see Windows 7Firewall Control on The list that Phazor posted.
    It sounds decent enough.
I have heard of problems with Comodo - its system presense and uninstatallability
I do not want some suite filled product either.
    This is tough one, hmmmm.

Agnitum Outpost Firewall, though I haven't tried version 7 yet. If you watch they sometimes do lifetime licences.

windows 7 firewall control from sphinx here too. works good and is a stand-alone app so that might influence what you're looking for vs a suite. don't see it on the list or know how it scores though, but it does offer good program control in both directions.

OK I am trying out Comodo Firewall standalone (free) - It installed without a hitch.
Looks like it has many options from dummy with presets to advanced, where you can allow who and what you want. I do want to keep track of software. Seems like there's too many busy bodies on the net..:D

comodo is actually my favorite FW, and amazing thing : it's free ! competitors are behind and not free.
there's 64bit and 32bit version. i'm still using version 3.14, i'll update to the new comodo 4 soon, when this new version will be tested enough.
what is nice on the new version is the sandbox associated to the defense+.
the defense+ is a great tool to find malwares not detected by AVs.
