Hello, apologies if this is ridiculous question but I have to ask. I have this ASUS K50AB laptop which came without OS, however I got it in funny circumstances and I'm hoping that there might have been windows preinstalled on it some day. Is there any easy way to tell which version of windows was it (if any) by looking at SLIC Table? Thanks
Firstly, see at the bottom of the lappy and search for any COA sticker; or check with AIDA64 or SLIC Dump Toolkit... if its SLIC 2.0, then most probably it was Vista, if 2.1, then most probably it was 7.
Thanks for reply, I have SLIC 2.1 and no stickers at all but I've seen few laptops with no sticker that could be activated with correct Windows OEM keys and I can be sure that nobody modified BIOS in them. Is fact that 2.1 SLIC is present in BIOS implies that I could install Windows 7 OEM? I mean; could there be a SLIC 2.1 in BIOS which won't work with any Windows? I was going to try all windows 7 and Vista versions but if there is any way I could narrow down all these possibilities (x86, x64, ultimate, home, languages etc) please let me know.
Its just the version of SLIC which determines the OS; its neither architecture specific (x86/x64) nor SKU specific (Home Basic/Pro/Ultimate.. etc) SLIC 2.0 -> Vista SLIC 2.1 -> 7 (though SLIC 2.1 can also activate Vista)
