Hi guys, i have 1 serious question and i think i can find the answer here When do they (MicroSoft) release Windows 7 with SP2? That's all, sorry for too shortly, because of my Bad English ^^ Thank you!
Thankx Urie, i read that info several times, and sure i searched it. I mean any new info about it leaked because-of Win 8 RTM released and i think they should do it as usually ^^
For all we know, Win 7 SP2 may also disable the start menu and leave no metro in its place. When MS did not listen to the complaints about start menu for win 8, I think they have a closed mind on this, and may force the same thing on win 7. Reason: Make win 7 useless and force people to go to win 8.
digithief, was looking for real information. Not theories and speculation of what may or may not be added to windows 7.
Microsoft won't remove the Start menu from Windows 7. If they did, it would have the opposite effect of making people move to Windows 8. SP2 will be nothing more than a culmination of the current lot of updates, including all the hotfixes which outnumber release updates. This is a slight over-simplification of what will happen, but is 'essentially' what will happen. Service packs actually go through quite a bit of testing, and get added to, so if you should expect it anytime soon it must already be fairly progressed in testing.
I would dearly want a SP2 for both windows 7 and office 2010, but it seems unlikely to get the final bits in the next 2-3 months. Maybe late-2012 or early 2013. Post SP1 updates for win 7 now exceed 100 and more than 200MB Post SP1 for office 2010 also exceed 800MB. Any link to batch files for updating office 2010. I have the .glb files for office 2010 downloaded from MS but it is a pain to install them when they total more than 30. Unfortunately, there is not much public information about SP2.
Other people have also speculated that M$ may backport certain features of Windows 8 to Windows 7 SP2, such as DirectX 11.1. We are definitely in great need of SP2 now. After all, slipstreaming tons of hotfixes to a Windows 7 SP1 image is certainly messier than installing a integrated M$ Windows 7 SP2 image.
thank you for all your usefull info. since i heard about Metro UI and the absence of Start menu, i given up the thought of Windows 8. It should be a platform only for tables and cell phones. Thus, Windows 7 with SP2 is all i (we) need next several months till Win 9 (i think so ) or something else does better that makes me (us) stay.
Save it as .cmd. Change .msu to any extension you have installer for. Run as admin. Code: @echo off for /f "skip=1" %%A in ('dir /b *.msu') do ( echo Installing Update "%%A" ... start /wait %%A /quiet /norestart > nul ) echo. echo ########################################################### echo. echo Updates are installed echo Press any key to reboot pause >NUL shutdown -r -t 0
Windows 7 SP2 will be released when it's ready. Don't you hate simplistic answers like that? Really? It will be released when it's ready? Not before?! One thing that is a little surprising is that we haven't seen any beta's etc of the SP2. It's probably because it has been overshadowed by Windows 8. A 'best guess' at when SP2 will be released is after Windows 8 has been released. There was a rumour of something codenamed 'Windows Blue' due next year, although people are unsure of what that actually is. Suggestions indicate it's just a Service Pack for Windows 8, but 'akin to XP SP2' (a fairly significant update relatively speaking). By this stage I assume Microsoft are hoping for a large uptake of Windows 8, especially since the price is 'so low'. This update is in contrast to Windows 7 SP2 which will just be a essentially a culminated update pack, like Windows 7 SP1. So, if this 'Windows Blue' rumour holds true, and it is released around this time next year, it may give an indication of when SP2 will be released. In terms of SP2 though, don't expect anything spectacular, Microsoft aren't going to provide much more with the SP2 than what is already available with all the hotfixes (LDR).
I asked if you guys know some recent rumors...Windows 7 SP1 supports end on 9 April 2013,so SP2 must come until then,I just need it because there are too many updates to do,also installing from USB 3.0 would be great...as for now I have to stick with my intel integrated USB 3.0 drivers...
Too many updates? Its about 87 hotfixes (officially released via WU), IE9 included, and it takes about 20 min. to integrate them into install.wim
many updates are NOT pushed out through windows update... what you see on windows update are not really hotfixes the many hundreds of updates are limited use/releases ones that eventually make their way into a service pack... they are not pushed through windows update because they have a chance of breaking something in windows, a risk MS can't take... that's why there's a beta for service packs too!
MS may also be forced to make a third Service Pack for Win7 (like they did for XP), if Win8 proves to be a lemon.
