Hi, yesterday i upgraded my laptop to windows 10 and now my Geforce 650M doesn't get recognized. no matter what driver i install it won't work. I even reinstalled windows 7 agian and tried the official driver but it didn't help. now i looked up on the internet and found a site where they say that the bios(chip) may cause the problem. my bios chip got a few months ago broken and got replaced by a shop. today i found out that the bios says "Model: N56VB" instead of N56VZ. The N56VB has a different graphics card then the N56VZ so maybe that is the problem. So I tried to install the original N56VZ bios update from Asus but i get the error that the model number is not correct. Could someone give me advice on what the problem could be and how i could fix it. If the bios is the problem, do i have to get the bios chip out of the laptop and let it replaced or reprogrammed again? Or is it possible to force the original N56VZ bios update because it is the same chip so it shouldn't be a problem i think. if it isn't a problem how can i do that? Thanks in advanced
did you tried to install the Intelgfx driver first ? anyway here is the link to the N56VZv217 bios ht tp : / / dlcdnet. asus .c om /pub/ ASUS/nb/ N56VZ /N56VZAS217.zip you can try to flash it with h tt p: / / dlc dn et.as us . com /pub/AS US/nb/Ap ps_for_Win8/ WinFlash/W inFlash_W in8_64_Z2411.zip Im not able to post links so you have to remove the spaces sry for dat If you have problems to remove the spaces copy the links in notepad and replace the spaces with nothing
@not_a_user: yes i tried to install intel gfx first but it didn't help even when the i successfully install the 650M driver windows gives me the next error: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) and I can't install the original bios update with winflash because it says that this is the wrong model, that's why my questions if it's possible to force the bios update even when it says wrong model and would it break my laptop if i do that? @Joe C: is there an easy way to check the motherboard model number, because it's not so easy to open the laptop and i never did it before. yes i tried to install the original asus GT740M driver but just like the original 650M driver i get the error that that the driver could not find compatible hardware and it's not only in windows 10 but also in windows 7. it just broke by itself the one day it was working fine and the next morning the laptop didn't start at all. no asus logo nothing. the shop said that the bios chip was broken so i let them fix it.
I would not try forcing a bios update at this time, you could easily brick your laptop and will need another bios. Asus does not provide a driver for Windows 7 on that N56VB model Have you checked Windows Update to see if Microsoft is providing a driver? Obviously that shop used a N56VB motherboard to replace the N56VZ board that you had, Use the Drivers for a N56VB model
that is correct but there are drivers to find on laptopvideo2go when i fill in the video card hardware id which is: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0FD1&SUBSYS_14771043 and if I'm correct that hardware id is for the Geforce 650M Still no driver update from windows and asus for windows 10 i think so too but if it's the same motherboard that means the N56VB and N56VZ has the same bioschip and so it wouldn't be a problem to force the N56VZ bios update (I hope).
this windows 10 install is a fresh install (3 days old) and still no helpful update and i just tried to install the original driver from the nvidia website but still no luck it shows me the error no compatible hardware is found
@The Dev: Thanks for your reply 1. I looked inside the memory compartment but the model number wasn't there so I disassembled the whole laptop and found N56VM model number on the motherboard. (http : / / i57 . tinypic . com / 2r2572b . jpg and http : / / i58 . tinypic . com / qx17hv . jpg) 2. All the devices are working correctly except the Geforce 650M. Asus doesn't provide any windows 10 drivers for this laptop so if you could give me a link to the correct drivers that would be a great help. on windows 7 I installed all the drivers but it didn't help. 3. The sticker on the bottom of the laptop says N56VZ-S4035V. Bios version is 202 http : / / i62.tinypic . com / 2mo2k40. jpg and I am aware of the piont that every time i install a new driver i have to select the clean install box.
The FIRST thing to do is to figure out what system you've got. It is very likely that when you sent it in for repair, they replaced your motherboard with a different one, hence the different BIOS. If so, you NO LONGER HAVE an N56VZ. Install utilities like AIDA64 etc. to find out what hardware is in your system NOW. Then find and install drivers for THAT hardware. Be sure to send the repair shop a stinker if your current system is of a lower spec than the one you sent in - they are not supposed to do that without consulting you.
@Joe C: 1. i did that multiple times but no help. this was the part that i could install the driver from laptopvideo2go and then windows would give me the error: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) 2. just installed windows 8 intel chipset drivers then tried to install gfx driver but no luck. also searched for new windows driver update but also no luck @eemuler: this is what AIDA64 says about my laptop: Motherboard: CPU Type Mobile QuadCore Intel Core i7-3610QM, 3200 MHz (32 x 100) Motherboard Name Asus N56VB Series Notebook Motherboard Chipset Intel Panther Point HM76, Intel Ivy Bridge System Memory [ TRIAL VERSION ] DIMM1: SK Hynix HMT351S6CFR8C-PB 4 GB DDR3-1600 DDR3 SDRAM (11-11-11-28 @ 800 MHz) (10-10-10-27 @ 761 MHz) (9-9-9-24 @ 685 MHz) (8-8-8-22 @ 609 MHz) (7-7-7-19 @ 533 MHz) (6-6-6-16 @ 457 MHz) (5-5-5-14 @ 380 MHz) DIMM3: SK Hynix HMT351S6CFR8C-PB [ TRIAL VERSION ] BIOS Type AMI (01/21/2013) Display: Video Adapter Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (2304 MB) Video Adapter Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (2304 MB) Video Adapter Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (2304 MB) 3D Accelerator Intel HD Graphics 4000 3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce GT 650M Multimedia: Audio Adapter Intel Panther Point HDMI @ Intel Panther Point PCH - High Definition Audio Controller [C-1] Audio Adapter Realtek ALC663 @ Intel Panther Point PCH - High Definition Audio Controller [C-1] Network: Network Adapter Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30) (192. Try the hardware ID of the graphic adapter at the device manager if it will get you something compatible.
@Hadron-Curious: What do you mean? A compatible driver? if so i tried that. I filled in the device id (PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0FD1&SUBSYS_14771043) on a website for custom drivers (laptopvideo2go) and downloaded the correct driver but it still won't work. normal installation get cancelled because of "can't find any compatible hardware" error and installing it like what Joe C said in Safe Mode completes the installation. it gets installed but device manager puts a yellow triangel beside the device and in the properties of the device it says: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
Yes the intel HD graphics works just fine. what has been change that it became so messed up because like i said before it can't be that the motherboard is replaced by a N56VB because of a different video card and the rest of the specs are exactly the same. The driver you provided doesn't work "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware"
