    Hey there, I've been searching around and trying out the various tools to edit my SMBIOS, in specific my System Information structure (Type 1 UUID) but have had no luck! I've managed to rename my motherboard and manufacturer name to the correct strings. However I have been unable to change my UUID as SMBCFG.exe displays that it is READ-ONLY.

    I've created a flash drive to boot win98DOS and tried a number of other programs;

    I've attempted to use DMIDOS.exe but it will not work, instead displaying an odd screen that looks like a rainbow died at the bottom. I have an image avaliable but I don't think it is necessary atm.

    My OS is Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
    My Motherboard is an ASUS P6X58D-E
    My Bios is American Megatrends Inc. 8303.
    My SMBIOS version is 2.5
    I am running an Intel i7 930.

    Some of the programs I've tried have dead links so I haven't had a chance. Lost and without anymore ideas or patience, I've posted a thread to seek out help.

    I am happy to give additional details if requested to the best of my abilities.

    I am completely new to playing around with my BIOS and have so far only done some trivial things like name my manufacturer ASSus, I'm interested in perhaps delving into far more useful functions but at the moment, I am dedicating my efforts into trying to change my UUID.

    Thanks!

    When I try to open the BIOS (Downloaded from the ASUS website, P6X58D-E-ASUS-0803.ROM)
    I get an error;

    'Error parsing BIOS data. $BOOTEFI$ signature not found. Please open correct ASUS BIOS file.'

    What does this mean and what should I do?

    I extracted the above files into a folder on my desktop named 'fpt_bios'.
    I ran backup.bat and received the following error;
    Error 201: [FPTw.exe] cannot be run on the current platform.
    Please contact your vendor.

    'This program cannot be run in DOS mode.'
    Press any key to continue . . .

    ;-; Is it perhaps my motherboard that is affecting this? Or Have I seriously messed something somewhere up?

    I backed up the bios it produced (AmericanMegatrendsInc.-0803.rom)
    I get the same error when I try to open it with F44Editor;
    'Error parsing BIOS data. $BOOTEFI$ signature not found.
    Please open correct ASUS BIOS file.'

    Did you still want me to flash it or was I supposed to upload it?

    AFUDOS doesn't seem to be supported by my BIOS.
    I am inside the DOS screen right now.
    I have tried typing 'AFUDOS.exe P6X58D-E.rom' and 'AFUDOS.exe P6X58D-E.com /U' but both give the same error.

    Edit: Nevermind! I tried an older version of AFUDOS.exe (219) and i've managed to start the flashing, however I haven't edited the .rom so how should I go about doing that?

    It is currently on Advance Check . . . . . . . . .

    I am unable to post a link as I am a new member of these forums so I will private message you instead. Unsure If you received any and I can't leave you a Visitor Message either so;
    2shared(dot)com/file/ yb8eAJb2/P8X58D-E [dot] html
    Here you go.
    The UUID I'd like to change is under Type 1 (System Information)
    1F004680-00C6-0000-044F-485B393DFF71
    0000000000000000000000001f004680 should be the hex according to DMIscope.
    You can change it to anything, just change one or two digits please :eek:

    Thank you!

    P.S; If you could teach me how to do this or what was stopping me that would be much appreciated!

    Thank you so much! I will try this out now.

    My UUID remains the same even after the reset :<.

    I am using the commands;
    'AMIDEDOS.exe /SU 14004680 00C6 0000 044F 485B393DFF71'
    With and without spaces.

    I then run 'Randuuid.exe' and it produces a new UUID which says 'Done'

    And then I type 'AMIDEDOS.exe /SU' to check the HWID and it appears to have saved.

    I then restart my computer but when I check in CMD with the command
    'wmic csproduct get name,identifyingnumber,uuid'
    And the UUID remains the same.

    What am I doing wrong?

    If I restart, the UUID reverts to what it was originally which was 8046001FC6000000044F485B393DFF71

    Should I be using a command to save this change or will a soft reset work?

    Tôi đang chạy công cụ này từ hệ điều hành DOS. Tôi đang sử dụng một khởi động lên Flash Drive sử dụng Windows 98-DOS.
    UUID của tôi không tiết kiệm khi tôi thay đổi nó với AMIDEDOS.exe, DMI20_44.EXE hoặc DMI236.exe hoặc RANDUUID.exe.

    Tôi đang sử dụng Google Translate. Mẹ tôi không có ở đây cô ấy là tại Việt Nam vì vậy tôi không thể yêu cầu giúp đỡ.

    Phải UUID của tôi bây giờ là 1F004680-00C6-0000-044F-485B393DFF71

    (0000000000000000000000001f004680) nên được hex theo DMIscope.

    Tôi muốn thay đổi nó để bất cứ điều gì khác. Nhưng UUID tôi đưa vào sẽ không tiết kiệm.

    English:

    I'm running this tool from DOS. I'm using a Flash Drive to boot up using Windows 98-DOS.
    Save my UUID
    I am using Google Translate. My mother is not here she is in Vietnam so I can not ask for help.

    My UUID is currently 1F004680-00C6-0000-044F-485B393DFF71

    (0000000000000000000000001f004680) should be the Hex under DMIscope.

    I want to change it to anything else. But when I edit the UUID with AMIDEDOS.exe, DMI20_44.EXE or DMI236.exe or RANDUUID.exe.
    It will not save. What can I do?
