    Hey up

Been messing with an oldish board, the Asus P8Z77 VLX.

I can manage to mod the BIOS to hold SLIC but when I add SLP ( Cause I like messing with XP every now and then ) the BIOS verification fails.

    Using phoenixtool266 new module method.

Anybody point me in the right direction to help me fix this please.

    :g:

Using Bupdater.exe to flash the BIOS ;)

Yep, got SLIC 2.1 and Win 7 activates nicely.

I know XP is old hat but I don't mind having a play every now and then.

    Cheers though ;)

if you flash and bricks.. it can be flashed easy by removing with hexedit the header top part of .bin.
    flash with ch341a easy.

Well, last time I was looking for an eeprom writer they were well dear. I just looked on ebay, around and even under £10.

Back in the day I was flashing lots of boards to add SLIC for Win 7 activation. Don't tend to do it now. Only bricked two boards in my time. One of those tools would have come in right handy.

Just use AMIDEWIN / AMIDEDOS to add SLP strings to "online" BIOS, quite easy and handy, no need to mess with modding protected EFI BIOS files.
    ;)

adding SLP with phoenixtool to Asus 7-series is known to cause "security verification failed" during flash

btw why not just use a VLK?

this has only been tested for early BIOS version!
    Choose a SLIC
Leave SLP and RW File blank
Method: Dynamic (BIOS version<=1701) / New Module (>=1801)

Structure > expand the tree to the 2nd File Volume and select Freeform {FD44820B...}, click Insert
    when prompted click Yes, choose file C:\phoenixtool266\SLP10.MOD (<= 0801, ??? for >= 1201)

this step is optional as you can add SLP string into SLP10.MOD beforehand
Advanced > check Allow user to modify other modules
when prompted to add your mod, add SLP string after "$ODB$...>." into
<path to BIOS>\DUMP\8E477676-55FD-48CF-9210-15A99B27D740_XX.ROM (the 3rd file with the same prefix)
