    Hi

I have one of the above tablets that came with windows 8.

Id like to do a clean install of windows 8.1 but the widows 8 key that came with it doesnt seem to work with 8.1.

Ive installed windows 8.1 using the generic key but i cant get my key to activate 8.1. when i insert the supplied key into windows it says the key cant be used ( or summit at work atm)

Is the problem that the windows 8 key it came with says ' Windows 8 Small Screen Touch '?

    Thanks

    Matt

perhaps there was some core/pro confusion? A little bit of using the wrong generic key during new installation can lead to unwanted results

    Hi

Im 99% certain the asus was windows 8 pro as standard. When i installed 8.1 it said windows 8.1 pro in the corner, so im guessing i used the correct generic key.

as long as you are on the sunny side of that street having genuine key, you can call the gangsters at Redmond and they get you help

edit: Tito gave you a hint about the version you might have at your corner. If it only tells you 8.1 instead of pro, you can read my other statement above

Yeah sorry when i installed 8.1 it said pro, typo.

I recover the tablet to default to double check what version of windows actually came with it.

    Thanks

Most likely your tablet had Windows 8 Single Language, not even Core or Pro since ASUS is a Taiwanese company
