is it possible to back up the activation files yet? i tried the old win7/win9 methods and they do not work.
I have been looking into it but it doesn't seem like we know how to backup online activation. I'm sure it's possible, but it's more complex than backing up the phone activation, so we haven't figured it out yet. It likely involves all sorts of custom guids and registry keys and crap. We don't know exactly. From my limited testing, I know that it can definitely check your activation while offline if you disable network, but again we don't know how to reproduce it on a clean install.
What is the point it is tied to the Hardware ID of the machine if you upgraded. You would need to be online to get activated on a reinstall.
At least it's additionally to all pretty much pointless, since the mechanism made online activation mandatory.
well that SUCKS! what about backing up phone activation? not everyone has access to the internet. Hellooo Microsoft Tool Kit
The only point is so you can do a clean install with a different motherboard and do phone activation to *fix* it. ATM we don't even know if that works, but I've been told from ppl that had to switch hardware that phone activation did it.
i know this a "off topic" question but does anyone know how to get "thick" windows borders back i hate Thin windows borders?
I activated Win 8.1 with WMediaCenter key - upgraded to win 10. IS ok permanent activated. Now if i install Windows 7 i need activation key or it will be activated? (hardware actication from win10) ?
I always thought there are HDD monitor softwares able to foresee what has been written to the disk, and use it during the license activation period.
This poster reported this, I don't know where he got it from, but I believe DAZ said the same thing. So if you save the GT from a activated win 7, you can replace it in a clean 10. Can't do any testing as a few systems are out to friends that will keep them for ever like I don't care. Once you activate to 10, the HWID is always there stored, so there's only a few reasons to do this, no real reason to backup when you have one act of 10 and can clean install forever.
Here's what I copied. I hope Daz doesn't mind. I removed a couple of comments by others in the midst of it. He did not mention the slmgr -ato part as above. Daz: There is one way to pre-generate your info. It might work as a backup method that ensures activation too. Daz: Copy gatherosstate.exe from a Windows 10 10240 ISO Daz: Run it on your Windows 7/8 PC Daz: It'll output GenuineTicket.xml Daz: Fresh install Windows 10 with the internet connection disabled. Once it's installed copy GenuineTicket.xml to C:\programdata\microsoft\windows\clipsvc\genuineticket\ Daz: Reboot and connect online Daz: It'll activate the same as an upgrade
