Hey everyone, I was thinking of starting my own forum like this one but I am not sure weather to use bbpress or phpbb. I like the idea of connecting a wordpress install and bbpress but should that feature be a deciding factor. phpbb has been around a while and could be better I dont know. Please post your opinion or answer the poll. When the site starts it will be http://forums.windowstech.info. Also later I am planing on adding a Wordpress (Wordpress is awesome by the way!) site at the root page. http://windowstech.info
Some of the phpBB staff are thin-skinned assholes (kind of like a few people here), but the software works great. I've been a user/admin of it for nearly 8 years now. I've never used use BBPress before so no comment. You may also consider Simplemachines. The community appears to have a more personable and friendly atmosphere where they're more laid back and easy going, unlike phpBB where it's run very seriously almost like a business.
I've seen more PHPBB forums then BBPress and they work fine so PHPBB for me. p.s p.m me when your forum is running
I will let you guys know when it is up. I decided om bbpress and I never thought it would be so complex to set up but it is comming together well. I should have it done soon. Thanks for the support guys.
Heavier? Drag? Too many features? Have you even used phpBB before? phpBB 3 is extremely efficient, clean and fast. Not to mention it's easy to use once you learn how it works. They put in essential features that the majority of people need and want and left the bloatware out. This isn't my opinion, it's what the developers have stated.
I use bbPress with 2.5.1 and its high degree of integration, has just started at the touch of my new 2.6 site and its very impressive, be sure to read the directions, even if its a bit different media to install the plugin.
I decided to go back to phpbb its less complicated. Bbpress had no features and to add any it was a hassle. I should have the site up soon.
