hi all building my self a home storage server just wondering the best way to go about activation would it be the same as with win 7 silic 2.1 in bios then cert/key install on Hdd ?
SLIC 2.1 for SVR 2008 R2 and SLIC 2.0 for SVR 2008.. and for WHS? hmm Im pretty sure it would be the same as for 7 but i dont know really, lets wait for the experts.
WHS is based on W2K3 server (unless you talk about beta Vail...) As such it is SLP string in BIOS, SLP OEM key for WHS & oembios.* set of files for the SLP string sebus
sebus would the bios mod for win7 do? or would i have to create my own mod for my Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-US2H ? i do have to admit am quite lost on what to do with this lol is there any detailed guides lol
think i get what has to be done now please correct my of I am wrong. for home server based on around 2003 all I need do is inject a SLP string into my BIOS use a SLP OEM key and oembios files to match. for Vail when its out of Beta SLIC 2.1 and cert and key (possibly) all i need to work out now is how to inject a SLP string into the BIOS.
Very easy... use DMI-Boot-CD to insert string. h t t p://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/6351-DMI-Boot-CD-for-Award-AMI-Intel-BIOS-(Add-SLP1.0-w-o-modding) remove spaces from http
how can i remove this SLP string out if my DMI I give up with this endless reading of this windows 7 was so easy compared to this, the 7 guide pointed you to all the right places files needed and what to do whs each search makes it more confusing and everyone in the same boat i come across is told to use search when search only brings more confusion guess am to dumb for WHS lol
Basic computer knowledge should be a must, if you have read all that is written on this subject and still ain't able to make it work i guess this is not meant to be used by you. FYI, just clear the DMI entry added with a DMI editor... (Google)
I have basic computer knowledge I spend most of my time helping people with computer problems if I read all that is written on the subject I would be here for about 3 months that's the problem really the info is spread all over the place I am surprised that there isnt a proper guide that lays it all out in one place as it does on the widows 7 guide you needs this disk download here use this like this add this and your done theres nothing like this all there is use the search or it isnt for you
the only person with an attitude here is your good self you can't really expect every person to have as much knowledge as yourself has in this, this has nothing to do with lazyness I must have burnt about 6 copys using your guide to turn pp3 to oem finally got one working tonight but its not activated and and it should really be and it don't know what's going wrong
I assume it is just a typo & should read "...I don't know what's going wrong" But I know, you just can not follow very simple, well laid steps, or maybe you just simply do not understand the very simple OEM SLP activation process that is used in XP/W2K3/WHS I do advice to learn, it is fun Otherwise go out & buy HP MediaSmart server sebus
sebus if I could afford a HP media server I would have already got one but the fact is I can't and this thread is about helping me activate whs if you don't want to help that's fine then move along to the next thread to anyone that is willing to help this is what I have done any idea what I have done wrong 1 entered HP slp into the DMI with the SATA version of the Slp tool 2 built the PP3 version of the CD using FreeStyler's nice detailed guide using HP 2003 R2 CRC-D107C3E: OEMBIOS from here installed using a key ending in 4yktw
thanks for that key sebus changed and it stills not activated but at the least I am 100% I will be using the right key in future. @FreeStyler i used the guide you linked me to see below h t t p ://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/15307-Convert-Windows-Home-Server-PP3-Trial-to-OEM?p=223112#post223112 screen shot oembios1.1 h t t p ://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo97/sniperdude_2008/untitled.jpg don't have enough posts to put up screen shots or links yet
You really should consider recreation using the revised guide, it is the best way as the original guide changed some registry settings faking it to be WHS setup (the original guide was created when a real OEM:SLP key did not exist) SLP string looks good, OEM:SLP key looks good as well
ok I will start over. I haven't seen the revised guide lol I didn't know about it until you just said so its confirmed ? I am now using 1: a good slp string in DMI 2: a good OEMbios 3: the right key haha will have something to eat then find this guide and hopefully sort this out thanks for the help guys much its appreciated will post back my results
