I use the firewall of ESET Smart Security but it's not a standalone firewall, I recomend Comodo Free, and also this might be helpful ;)

did google it. came up with comodo and personal firewall. they say PF is s**tty and comodo starts in boot before the OS and people were complaining about that

I just use defender, avira, malwarebytes and normal Win 7 firewall. No need for me to get fancy

With XP try Agnitum Outpost Free, for Vista and newer turn on bidirectional filtering on the built in firewall and use Windows Firewall Control

I'm Using Microsoft Security Essential for 6 months and it is working fine... And I've turned Windows Firewall on... Everything is running fine... Never had any issue, it is working pretty fine and I'm quite satisfied with it...
