Have you ever tried PDFill? Their editor is quite neat (and I believe it's cheaper) ,plus they offer a PDF Tools freeware for quick fixes like merging, splitting, adding watermarks, etc. If you don't need advanced tools, you can download the freeware.

Yes...I also have been using Nitro for a few years already.
Must say its quite good, not as bloated as Acrobat.

PDFescape is an online utility, and PDFedit is a desktop one. Both are free, seem to be good although I've never had to do too much with them

When you use an editor to edit the PDF file, what happens to the tables/charts and pictures that were in the PDF file? Can the text and charts be copied over into MS Word? Can the edited information be converted into an ePUB file or equivalent?

I was wondering how does it handle tables? And sometimes there is information in a table format but the table is not visible. Can it discern those situations?

I've looked at their website. It seems like a good product and it is not too expensive.

    Might I also suggest PDF-Xchange it's a viewer/editor and best of all it's freeware.

Other than Acrobat you can try Foxit Phantom.

my vote is for Foxit as well, both as a free PDF viewer, browser plugin and and their Editing tools. Fast, lite and rock solid.

    Take care

I would strongly recommend anyone needing to work with PDF files takes a look at the free PDF-XChange Viewer from Tracker Software. It does numerous things that the FREE version of Foxit doesn't. It also offers support for XFA PDF form files which neither Foxit nor Nitro does. Absolutely super - nothing compares - just about the best free software I have ever downloaded ! The support is also excellent and free!

PDF-XChange is excellent for read and edit pdf

Also I would like to add information from the site Tacker Software: “To all users of the FREE version of the PDF-XChange Viewer we are pleased to announce that after repeated requests by a significant number of users we have 'opened' all the Bookmark functionality (add/Edit/Delete) and released them so a paid for version is no longer required.”

PDF-XChange opens files so much faster than adobe. foxit is popular but I've settled with PDF-XChange
