Looking to wipe my bloatware Windows 10 and install Windows LTSC on my Dell XPS 15. Was going to make a system image backup USB for the first time as well. Any tips on what software to use to create a system image of my Dell laptop with LTSC? (Also if anyone has any tips on installing LTSC on a Dell laptop, I'm all ears)
This is how I (would basically) do it Download LTSC https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...-enterprise-iot-enterprise-n-ltsc-2021.84509/ Create Win10XPE https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/user-friendly-winpe-builders.78922/ Boot into Win10XPE Install LTSC After you have finished setting up (installing drivers, programs, settings, etc) Boot into Win10XPE again Use Macrium Reflect (included in Win10XPE) to create an image of your system partitions
Why use a stupid proprietary program when you can easily make an universal wim/esd using wimlib or dism or imagex or gimagex?
No need to use sysprep if you want just a "ready to go" backup of your working OS. Sysprep is needed if you plan to move that backup on a different HW or if you want to make a generic ISO/WIM of your customized/updated install.
This stupid proprietary program so far is the most reliable and efficient method for me. Whatever works for you
Capturing to wim has it's pro's and con's. Creating a backup from a fully setup install is the best, imho (and most noob proof, no need to learn about audit/preparation/sysprep/capturing and dealing with the post production, etcetc... and what about the default excluded file extensions?).
I don't understand, default exclusions are set by Ms for a reason, (and they are easy to change anyway), what you are supposed to loose not backing up some useless trash?
Install the OS, do whatever you want to it, boot the winpese/winxpe disk and run macrium reflect, not that much different but more noob proof, sounds good to me.
Wimlib capture X:\ Y:\backup.wim Or Wimlib apply Y:\backup.wim X:\ aren't exactly the most obscure commands of the galaxy.
