I tried to watch downloaded .avi movies with Windows Media Player, and the video quality is very poor, can see blocks and artifacts everywhere. When I watch the same movies with VLC, it is clear. I think it is a codec problem. What is the best codec to apply to Windows 8 Media Player, so we can watch movies clearly?
shark007.net click on windows 8 codecs, I think they're better than his windows 7 ones at least sound wise, some how my thx surround sound is working loads better than on windows 7
I have been using various codecs until I found this: zzz.shark007.net (replace zzz with the usual. I can not post the link directly) Since that time i.e., two years I simply installs this in Windows 7 and Windows 8. Just go to the website and read the codec details. It is wonderful and let you play everything in WMP with all the different audio tracks including DTS and DD.
I use k-lite codec pack with MPC-HC. Work very well and support my hw acceleration (Ati 6950) for video h264
I just installed this, thought I would see how it goes. I didn't have much luck with k-lite on win8. So far this is better, and the MKV have thumbnails. Thanks
Went with the Shark codecs (shark007.net), as it is ranked highly by google, has Windows 8 specific installer, and is updated most often. Works well, windows media player now plays everything with no quality issues. Just make sure you untick all the optional adware before installing. Not a fan of the ugly sharkhead icon, but hey, not a big deal... K-lite looks popular too but no Windows 8 installer and no update for half a year, gave it a pass.
Codec packs often mess with your system if you don't know what you're doing while customising the options to install. It could result in conflicting codecs which can become messy. I saw an article advising that users only install codecs individually based on their needs. I advise LAV filters and Haali Media Splitter. Those two should do the trick in a majority of instances unless you're trying to play some file encoded in an obscure format.
yeah codec packs in general are bad I'm not sure why anyone would really need one if you have a decent 3rd party software player.
it depends what kind of media you are trying to use, video files:mkv,mp4,ogg,avi,m4a,flv ? audio:mp3,mp4,flac,m4a,ogg ? for me,i install VLC and quicktime
Shark 007 for windows 8 is best agree I have used shark 007 on all os since winvista and never fail to work. Hint run as admin though on windows 8
