    Hi,
I have an asus p5w dh delxue motherboard
if i use the ami mod tool and choosing the Dell slic and SLP
and leaving manufacturer as asus. is that valid?
should i choose other on the manufacturer?
can i at all use dell slip and cetificate on an asus motherboard?
    can you please explain?
and another thing after flashing the resulted bios how do i finnaly activate windows7?
The reason i wanted to use dell or someone else was because i saw that the ASUS one is for a laptop computer and i was not sure it is ok
because my computer is a regular one...
Does all this bios modding is better than using a loader??
also does the loader is a program that runs in the background all the time??

    Thanks

You can ami tool to mod your bios though this one maybe already been done.. you can use Dell or asus slic. SLP not needed if you activate win7 only.. Choose asus.. Bios modding its better but it takes a lot of RISK Hmmm to many question.. lol :D its better read all this thread..

    i still does not understand

    hi,
i have read the thread that should explain a bit
but i posted the questions after reading it because i felt i still did not understand for sure these questions

espacially regarding the difference between bios modding and using a loader (is there a third option?? - was not sure regarding an option of install a signature and a key - does this requires already modded bios???)

does it matter whether using a loader or a modded bios? - for what??
does the loader consumes memory and/or cpu and/or other of the computer resources??

and last what is the EFI bios ???

    Regards

If you have an Asus motherboard the use the Asus Slic and certificate. All Asus Slics have 'Notebook' in them.

Read this explanation about OEM-SLP activation for Vista - http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/5619
It is the same for Win 7 with the exception that the Slic needs to be v2.1

So you can see that for activation you need a valid Slic table + matching certificate + an OEM-SLP key that matches your version of windows.
The Slic table needs to be loaded into memory, this is done at every boot and either comes from the bios or is loaded by the 'Loader'.
The Certificate and key are installed by yourself after bios modification or by the 'Loader' the first time the loader is run.
This is only done only once.
The effect the loader has on your PC Cpu, resources etc is negligible, it might increase your boot time by a couple of nanoseconds.

Not all PCs can have their bios modified, EFI is one example, also many people do not want to modify their bios, so this is where the Loader is useful.
As Domatlapuk said bios modification is not without risk and there is no point repeating all of the links he has given you.

The activation process after flashing the bios is in section 6f of the Repository.

The other options are Chew-WGA or Remove WAT. These do not activate but effectively put windows into permanent 'Trial mode'. I would only use these if you can't mod the bios or the loaders don't work.

    I hope this helps a bit. :)

    HeHeHe!

If I knew that I would be a genius.

People think PCs are all the same, they are not, there are as many variations as there are blades of grass in my lawn. So what works on one machine does not work on another.

A loader cannot damage your PC, the worst that can happen is you may have to reinstall windows.
A bios mod that goes wrong can result in a machine that won't boot, and could only be fit for scrap.

Why don't you try a loader until you gain more experience.
    I would recommend Daz's loader found here - http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/8632

Daz has very good support in his thread, useful if problems occur.

    Loaders

    Hi,
thanks for the reply and i'll take your advice
i wanted to know eher deos the loader sits? deos it a software that resides on the harddrive or is it being saved into the bios chip qand runs from there ?
i also dont understand what causes this application to run- and as a result to load the slic table into memory on every restart?

    Regards

    I am no loader expert.
The loader has no effect on the bios chip, the only way the bios can be modified is for you to flash the bios, this is not a thing that can be done by accident.
The loader modifies the boot process to load the Slic table into memory and when first run it also installs the certificate and the key to complete the activation process.

On subsequent boots the modified boot process loads the Slic into memory emulating what a modified bios would do.

I would recommend you read through some of the loader threads for more information.

As well as Daz's loader there is -
    Hazar's - http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/10187 - but I think he has stopped supporting it.
And one by Nononsence & HotCarl - http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/11711

In terms of using a loader I would stick with Daz's as he appears to be giving the best support.
