Does anyone know how to modify the BIOS of a Dell Latitude CPx J650GT laptop so that the HDD size/limit can be adjusted?

I am trying to setup a brand new Toshiba 400GB USB external drive, and WinXP home edition keeps asking me for a driver. Dell and Toshiba can't/won't
help because they say that it's because of a BIOS HDD limitiation issue.

The external drive has been tested on several machines within 2 years of age,
and with different MB's, and they all instantly recognize the drive.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!

    Many possibilities

I would require more details to TS

    1. USB driver such that it will support the HDD/USB devices?
    2. HDD driver (usually HDD firmware/OS installed driver combo manages this; since other machines see HDD, I think you can rule out HDD specific issues): who is drive mfg?
    3. Does the BIOS report the presence of the HDD (ignore what capacity is reported for now)?
    4. What version (SP) of XP?
    5. go to DISK MANAGEMENT via ctrl panel: is the drive reported - how; are you asked to initialize the drive?
