Here is what I know and what I would like to confirm. DCx100's throught DCx700's are not moddable. That would cover the 5 series and 7 series. The DCx900 series for sure have 2.1 in the latest bios. I have confirmed on aDc7900's That leaves the Dcx800 series. DC5800 and DC7800 These were all on the free upgrade list and posters have confirmed that they will self activate IF you use the HP resotre disc after loading the latest bios. Multiple posters have said that the 7800 and 5800 do self activate, meaning they are 2.1 My confusion is that the 5800 and 7800 bios updates DO NOT put slic 2.1 in the bios. I have updated them and the kit shows OEM 2.0. So what does the factory restore disc do that the bios update doesnt? PS I think this covers the Dc5850 also. Would still like to find out how posters report the DC7800 is self activating with the factory disc since the latest bios does not have slic 2.1 I have one but I don't want to take it down just to play with it.
maybe with spi backup and manually mod it then flash it back but its not spi type chip likely its older PLCC32
Well, same situation here (I could possible try but the workstation is constantly in use - it's quite difficult for me to stop it for a new windows7 install) - I have still 29 days to solve the rebus.
