    my pc was running ok untill i tryed to put a 3rd hdd in to run linux. but all the ribbons connection would only allow me to put 2 in so i started to put it back together when i put it together it would not work reinstalled x p on the 120g hdd i had in there.before i started i had

    dvd/rom
    dvd/cd r e w r i t e r
    s d k c a r d reader
    80g 2nd hdd
    120g os on
    2.5 memory
    no floppy

    right put it back together and all i keep getting now is the screen with w i n d o w s will start normally
    and thats all it keeps doing. it did crash and it says that your cpu is not compatible with the bios this is the report i got

    M i c r o s o f t is unable to determine the exact cause of this error. However, this problem was most likely caused by an error in your computer’s random access memory (RAM). RAM is the main internal storage area the computer uses to run programs and store data.
    During the crash analysis, we noticed the basic input/output system (BIOS) version on this computer does not match the specifications for the central processing unit (CPU), also known as a processor, that is installed on your computer. This can occur when a newer processor is installed on an older system board or older BIOS. Using a BIOS that does not support the installed processor can result in W i n d o w s system crashes. Contact your computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer for an updated version of BIOS for your computer's processor.

    i have been reading the post on it but dont have aclue where to start ive ran the b i o s a g e n t plus. and this was the result now bear in mind that im new to this so if that agent is right then this is what it reports

    B I O S type = p h o e n i x a w a r d
    B I O S id = 07/09/2003 s p r i n g d a l e-g-6a79am4kc-00-none
    B I O S W6763IP2 V3.8 072903 17:50:41 - V3.8
    Chipset:=Intel 2570 rev 2
    SuperIO:=Unknown
    Manufacturer: P a c k a r d B e l l NEC

    Motherboard: 00000000000000000000000

    a b i o s update is avalible for your pc

    now ive been reading the post but like i said im new to this at the minute ive got it working but i only have

    hdd os
    1.5g of ram both sticks are in the purple holders and my cpu is switching power supply model 300atx-p4 out put 300w. i do have another cpu and thats atx 350w designed for p e n t i u m 4 there is nothing else on it i hope i have explained this so it can be understood because like i say been on ere 2 days looking then try different things to get it to run its running now but like i have said above thanks.

    Why don't you just go to your PC Manufacturers Support site and download and flash the newest BIOS ?
    That may fix your problem.
