Do you have an utility that could allow InsydeH20 users to flash a modded bios via DOS? My OS is connected via a USB and everytime I try to run InsydeFlash the laptop just crashes cause it disconnects the USB drives for abit ): I use SP55068 (F.1B)
Maybe try the steps at this link? https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...5068-donovan6000-mods-microcode-update.77793/ and also: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/hp-insyde-bios-recovery-steps.35272/ Seems like you need to flash in Windows or via EFI environment since USB ports are reset during flashing in DOS environment.
Thanks for your reply! I ended up (sort of) directly soldering the hard drive to the south bridge 4 data pins RX and TX for sata input while having it powered to a 5V supply and was able to power the HDD without use of the USB, just to say that the bios then worked like a charm. So for anyone who may experience a BSOD while updating the bios perhaps ensure that your bios flasher&files arent in any way interfering with USB because many flashers will reset the USB ports temporarily during flash rendering a BSOD and possibly a corrupted BIOS unless they're MS-DOS based / UEFI.
How can i identify what bios i have in my sons HP Probook 6460b with an intel i5 CPU? as cant get into BIOS due to forgotten password...I've tried using the BIOS update util from HP's website as there is an update available but i can't apply due to forgotten password. I'm hoping then i could use one of the programs as per the OP to fix Many thanks Edit - Using Win 10
Which one of these utility we can use to extract bios file from the Lenovo bios update file for insydeh20. I bricked my laptop after bios downgrade process which went successfully as per the insydeh20 installer. Now either i must find a way to do bios flash if possible using USB or write bios file to bios chip using spi programmer that I already ordered. Any help will be highly appreciate! Make a sad guy happy again!
Hi, you might try to extract the BIOS file from the exe using the steps here: [Batch Script] Extract all Inno Setup Wizard EXE Files in Directory | My Digital Life Forums Hope this helps.
You should extract the Innounp.exe to somewhere like C:\Innounp Then place the BVCNxx at that folder. Then line the CMD there, (cd C:\Innounp) The command is : innounp -x "BVCNxxxx.exe" The extracted 2nd-layer exe should be in the folder. Then you can use winrar or 7zip to open that exe and find the F........bin there. I'm in the same situation as yours and some others', all thanks to Lenovo "unpredictable" 1.11. I also tried the recovery for Y540 (via USB) yet seem not working due to the unknown filename (I just tried some name like BVCrisis, BIOS, etc with no luck) Looking forward to hearing from you. * Edit: I wanted to link you the guide for Innounp (that I spent hours searching :v but I could not find it again then). I thought the above command is enough for what you need inside the exe BIOS
Hi, In case you need to get the recovery filename for the BIOS, you could try to use PhoenixTool created by a member of this forum, AndyP. Steps that might work for you (if BIOS is from Insyde): https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...se-andys-tool-to-obtain-possible-names.13095/ Download PhoenixTool here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...slic-in-phoenix-insyde-dell-efi-bioses.13194/ Hope this helps.
I already extracted files using innoextract, even found possible file using PlatformName1 in bin file and even tried FAT and FAT32, tried renaming and copying .fd and .bin files out of name though nothing works at the end...computer do access usb file but no beep or recovery process. I think, Y540 laptop received wrong BIOS as reddit forum post said. If your laptop is under warranty, then better to get it serviced. If not, then try searching PlatformName1 string in the extracted bin file...it must be 5 letter word, after that rename the file with it, make another file and add this name plus X64 and extension is bin. Rename the copy of original extracted file with fd extension. Make copy of all .bin with fd extension and give another try.
So did USB indicator light flash? Did you press any keys on the keyboard i.e. you might need to press <Fn> + <Esc>, or <windows> key + <B> before plugging in AC adapter (battery removed). Otherwise, you might need to wait for your SPI programmer to arrive.
Only key combination that make USB flash for few times around 8-10 times in my case is Fn + r. But that does nothing also, no beep and no recovery even after leaving the laptop for 20 minutes. Because nobody so far reported that it is working in Legion laptop, I assume it was not programmed in legion laptop bios. So, will wait for SPI programmer. If it is only main bios, then SPI will work otherwise it will dead end because there is 3 winbond chip (1 is main bios chip, 2 i don't know what they do i assume EC or VGA bios) and then there is many pin microcontroller as I have been told. BIOS is only one part of the picture, there are many parts including ME, BIOS, EC, GeE...I have seen these in platform.ini file in the folder which was generated by innoextract. Hope it is only BIOS that is gone bad, pray for me!!!
