Bleedin' 'ell, can't access S3 on anniversary edition...

    Uh, ok cancel that. I had to uninstall everything including the windows device driver, re-install Kies3, use the tool therein to re-install device driver for windows, and that did the trick.(device driver would not re-install independently....)
