Does anyone know why an old Gateway desktop would not be able to boot from an Acronis boot disk just because the hard drive had failed? The boot menu that is accessible when the machine is turned on, gives booting from the CD as the first option, but after selecting that, says something to the effect of disk read failure, the same message that comes up when trying to boot to the failed hard drive. Why would a hard drive failure have any effect on booting to a CD?

Maybe try booting from the Acronis CD in a different [working] computer?

We've tried the CD in another machine and it is good. Something is definitely wrong with the Gateway.
