Hi there everyone. I was just wondering if anyone's computer got screwed up by there latest Window's 10 update. The update loaded fine in my desk top, but boy did it screw up the wife's laptop, and her laptop is only a year old. The update says failed but the update keeps trying to install itself which bogs the computer complete usability. I tried everything computer reset, won't reset, go to safe mode, won't go to safe mode. Tomorrow she's taking it back where she got it and the are going to reset it as if it were new again. Which is a pain in the a.... because now we have to set everything up again.

You mean an Upgrade to a new build, not a CU or another monthly update?

What update is it and did you try this:
    Code:
start > run > msconfig > 2nd tab [boot] > safe boot, no network
Next delete the complete "c:\windows\softwaredistribution\" folder and reboot into normal mode and re-try WU.

It was the update we just got on Tues. (KB40338788) with all the security updates. I tried to go to msconfig. but as soon as the computer shows the desktop the update is loading in the background and the computer will not respond.

I'm tired of these new Windows 10 updates daily that have caused me three times already to restore my systems. Luckily I keep a backup of all my different Dell laptops with a working Windows 10 Professional system. So I finally stopped the daily updates by changing the registry with the following, so you have control of when and how you want to update.
Go to regedit as a system admin. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\POLICIES\WINDOWS
Right click windows and select NEW and then click Key. Name the new key WindowsUpdate and press enter. Right click on the new key and select new and click key and name it AU. Now click on the new AU and select Dword(32bit) and name it AUoptions and press enter. Now double click the AUoptions and change the "0" to "2" and hit enter.
What you have set up is the "notify for download and notify for install" Microsoft updates. You have the control now of what you want to and when you want to update.
If you are using Windows Defender for security, your daily security updates will still work.

i work tech support remote and for past 2 weeks people are stuck with KB40338788 or KB40338782.
normally we can fix it but this CU is broken and not fixable.. many at my work tried all the tricks and nothing fixes it.. well sometimes reupgrade from iso run setup has fixed 1 of 10 ive tried to fix.

uninstall it and reboot then use windows 10 update hide tool to hide it until ms fixes that broken CU

If it was broken, why is it 100% installed at all systems i maintain? Nor is it reported to fail on MDL by any other member?
