Hello I have an old HP 280 G1 MT Business PC and i tried to update the bios after an ssd upgrade and installing windows 10. After bios upgrade pc restarted and never turn on again. I only get black screen and sometimes get 8 beeps or even 2x8 beeps. I already tried removing battery/changing jumpers positions and even tried to use a ps/2 keyboard with an active usb adapter. In all situation nothing happened. I cant try the "windows+b/v" since none of the keyboards are recognized. Is there any way to fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
this is a desktop pc and as i mentioned keyboard is not recognized..keyboard lights blink only once when pc starts and nothing else works (tried num lock/scllock afterwards and dont get enable)
Merry Christmas to you too, but if you expect somebody else to do all the research to figure out how to re-install the bios, then you should take your pc into a repair shop. The info is there to fix the bios if you only put a little effort into reading a couple threads so you can fix it for yourself. Here's a hint: it involves using a usb drive and some key strokes even though you can not see anything on the screen
who said i didnt spend several hours researching and trying things?! i removed drives, disks ,ram ,replaced ram, added more ram, changed ram slots, replaced psu, tried external gpu, even changed monitor and cable., moved jumpers around, changed battery. as for your hint i already saw several posts/topics/threats around. Keyboard is not recognized. Not a usb keyboard nor a ps2 keyboard with an active usb adapter so i cant use any strokes.keyboard only blinks once the pc starts up and then nothing
You can't tell if the keyboard works if there is no video display on the screen, Install the recommended bios flash on a usb, use the keyboard keys recommended and wait to see if anything happens. It's all posted ion a thread. All that other stuff you've tried is useless with a bad flash on the bios. The problem is the bios, not all that other stuff your attempting to do. You know it's from a bad flash so why are you playing games by switching around memory modules? You need to fix the bios. When it comes to re-flashing the bios, it does not matter if it is a laptop or a desktop if your using an HP oem motherboard Ask your questions here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/hp-insyde-bios-recovery-steps.35272/
will check that post if keyboard works shouldn't numlock/scrlock/capslock light enable when pressed? in anyway i even tried windows key+v and also +b. tried with hp usb recovery and also with cdrom nothing changed thats why i even used ps2 keyboard with usb adapter thinking that keyboard would work. nothing happened even tried several earlier bios versions
sounds like the bios update went wrong and u brick the mobo...that to me sound like bad mobo....my opinion stop wasting time get a new mobo if u know were to look u can pick one up real cheap.
You may want to bench test that board and I would use a known good power supply when you do. To bench test, remove the board from it's case, disconnect everything except the cpu/heatsink/fan, one stick of memory, keyboard, mouse and if necessary a video card. Place the board on a non-conductive surface (like a wood bench) and connect a good power supply (the 24 pin connector And the 4/8 pin connector for the cpu) . Temp jump the pwr pins on the front panel connectors and see if it will post. If it does not, remove the memory module and see if it will give you a beep code (providing it has a speaker on board or one connected to the FP pinout) On a side note: you used new thermal paste when you installed the cpu on the board from ebay?
yes i added fresh paste i also tried using other cpu other ram (1 & 2 slots) different disks (hdd & ssd empty & w/windows) other power supply. all with new board and new and old cpu i dont know if it matters but a strange thing i noticed was that if ssd was on it was beeping but when normal disk was on and totally empty it wasnt
can it P.O.S.T. and get into the bios without a hard drive connected? Count the beeps, that will give a beep code that can be looked up. Usually they are long and short beeps in some kinda order
