So I tried to remove the WLAN limit and get the advanced settings but may have used an RSA signed bios, or used the incorrect bios etc.

However, now my laptop has semi-bricked (I think it's semi)

    I followed the guide at
    forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/13095-Undocumented-INSYDE-BIOS-recovery-method-Use-andy-s-tool-to-obtain-possible-names

but was not successful. Also followed the guide at
    h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01670688&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=3688712&prodTypeId=321957

I downloaded the legit bios from HP -
    ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50001-50500/sp50229.exe
and extracted the file 0143B.fd, renamed it to 0143B.bin, followed the folder structure in the topic above and have not had any luck booting with Windows key + B or all 4 arrows.

I have also tried to remove the CMOS battery for 15 minutes, after which the CHECKSUM error appears, once restarted returns to the failed bios recovery screen.

I have attached the failed bios recovery screen, as this gets stuck in the following loop:

    Boot up laptop
Screen stays black for ~20 seconds
The bios recovery appears, and just says that the system BIOS recovery failed, wait 15 secs to restart or press enter
    Press enter/wait, and cycle repeats

Also tried to name the USB itself "HP_TOOLS" without quotations, and formatted USB as FAT/FAT32.

Please can anyone offer me some more advice, and it would be great if instructions could be provided for how to do this correctly as I've seen many different ways to correct this

Sorry for the essay, but I need my laptop working asap as I cannot complete some things I need to for work

Can't seem to attach so here is the screenshot:

I also followed the guide at forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/31498-Bricked-HP-HDX-9430-after-BIOS-update?p=532249&viewfull=1#post532249
but could not locate the .sig or .bin file

    Thanks for the reply LatinMcG.

I see that link has the .DEC and .SIG files, do I just copy them to a USB with the file/folder structure in the second link, then flash? Or do I need to do anything else?

Will try when I get home from work and let you know if it worked.

I managed to get the correct file names etc, used your decrypted file and got my own 2 files using the phoenix tool. However, it's still not working. More info on what I did is in the screenshot below:

    tinypic.com/r/sd2ntc/6

However, neither work. I have done the following:

    Take out battery
    Hold Windows + B
    Plug in USB
Plug in AC adapter, still holding Windows + B
Power on the laptop while holding windows + b (all the time)
Wait 15 seconds, then the same bios recovery failed error occurs.

    Any more advice?

I used these steps when I bricked my HP Pavilion dm4 [it was the only method that worked because I deleted the HP_TOOLS partition from HDD]:

Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...

Yeh my secondary backup partition is still named "HP_TOOLS" on my HDD, is that why it isn't loading from the USB?

I don't have a USB on me at work at the moment, but bought a SATA -> USB cable and connector so I'll go into the HP_TOOLS partition and replace the .bin and .sig and let you know if it worked

    All working now thanks :D

Just had to rename the old bios files in the HP_TOOLS partition that came on my laptop, added in the new files you supplied and followed the instructions.
