Laptop powers up to a black screen and HDD light is flashing orange after failed bios update. corrent FW revision is F.32A Tried Insyde H20 bios recovery procedure with no success. I opened the bios file with andy's tool and the name shown is B.BI and I opened platform.ini to check the Model number is 361B or 3610 I renamed the 3610F32A.FD to 3610.FD/361B.FD, 3610.BIN/361B.BIN, 3610.ROM/361B.ROM B.BI, etc and put them on newly formatted fat32 usb stick. follow the procedure documented the laptop powers up and shut down after 5-6 seconds on its own and then powers back up again on its own. Then nothing happens after 5-10 mins. any idea?
First of all, I need clarification on whether this laptop uses EFI/UEFI. It has Insyde H2O type of BIOS. don't know if it supports EFI/UEFI. When putting bios file onto the USB stick, what is the correct path/folder/directory? Does the usb stick need to be label HP_TOOLS? My feeling is the laptop is not completely dead since it still powers up but shows a blank screen.
My question is whether the boot block is still completed in the corrupted bios. When powering up w/ or w/o battery, it does the same thing. Turn on 3-4 seconds and shut itself down then turn itself back on. Nothing shows up on screen. I have tried all usb ports, usb/eSATA ports with a few USB sticks. still no luck.
sounds like bad bootblock .. order chip or get complete backup.bin for it to flash to chip with usb spi programmer or even the bad chipset that needs reflow.
usb spi programmer? I have got a teensy 2.0++ dev board. Does it work? Any diagram for the spi programmer? Don't have complete backup.bin? Can I use the one from the official download?
finally got a chance to disassemble the laptop to take a look at the bios chip. turns out this one has a Winbond 25x80AVSIG 8Mbit SPI Flash chip in a SOIC8 package Any advice on which programmer I should get? Thank you for your reply.
