I have been working for quite some time to resolve an issue on my Thinkpad T22 with W2kPRO SP4. I got the OS from this site and went to windows2000.tk to get all the updates. I first installed Wk2 w/SP4 then installed SP 5.1 and all was fine. Next I installed Windows2000-UpdateRollup2-x86-ENU.exe and that is when the problem surfaced. When I put the laptop in Standby mode and go to bring it out of Standby, I get the STOP error. It will then restart OK and sometimes will go through a chkdsk. Any ideas?
Stick to the official stuff from MS Updates. Or move on to something newer, even the Amish has given up on Windows 2000.
I decided with all the attempted fixes I tried that the installed OS was probably too far gone. I wiped the hard drive with Acronis, slipstreamed my W2kPRO SP4 with SP5.1.2195.21 that I had installed separately before. I am currently reinstalling all the Thinkpad drivers, then will make an Acronis backup, then try installing the rest of the W2k hot fixes and updates. Update rollup 2, as I understand it, is a newer update than SP5.1.2195.21 according to windows2000.tk
Oz, Maybe I am Amish and I have not given up on it. I am playing around with an old Thinkpad T22 laptop that I was given. It has been fun/frustrating playing around with getting the laptop running just for the fun of it.
Everything is now up to date with Windows 2000 PRO and working fine. Windows2000-UpdateRollup2-x86-ENU.exe was the culprit. After installing my slip-streamed Windows 2000 PRO SP4 with SP 5.1.2195.21 I tried installing the Rollup 2 again and had the same BSOD problem. I un-installed it and everything was OK again. I then installed Windows2000-UpdateRollup2-SrvExt-v2-x86-ENU.exe and STANDBY still worked. I then installed 40 + hotfixes one at a time. Now I am up to date and have a good running laptop.
