Yeah its legit This is taken from the FAQ site [h=6]What is the Windows Upgrade Offer?[/h]If you buy a qualified Windows 7 PC between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013, you can purchase a download of Windows 8 Pro at a special promotional price that varies by region. [h=6]Are all PCs purchased with Windows 7 between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013 eligible for the Upgrade Offer?[/h]Eligible PCs are new PCs purchased during the promotion period with a valid Windows 7 OEM Certificate of Authenticity and product key for, and preinstalled with: Windows 7 Home Basic; Windows 7 Home Premium; Windows 7 Professional; or Windows 7 Ultimate Note: Windows 7 Starter Edition is not eligible for this offer. All others pay 39.99$ for the upgrade
Does anyone know if it would be possible to register for the offer with an OEM SLP key and then get the upgrade on a PC made by that OEM? What kind of validation is M$ doing prior to approving such upgrades?
As far as I can tell, they are doing no verification at all for program eligibility. As for the upgrade itself it will only process if the current windows installation is activated.
