I have noticed that anybody can buy Windows 7 OEM on websites such as cheap-oem-software.us,where you can buy and download Win 7 Ultimate for $120 (US).Are these sites trustworthy? Does anybody know about these sites?
Wow, all those sites look completely fake... I wouldn't trust them at all. If you are concerned, contact Microsoft. Cost at distribution for Microsoft software: Windows 7 Ultimate OEM - GLC-00736 = ~$200 Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade Retail - GLC-00184 = ~$200 Windows 7 Ultimate Full Retail - GLC-00182 = ~$300 Make your own decision...
Can't you just buy the oem stuff from newegg? It allows you to add to your cart without even building a pc....
I would not buy anything online unless you know absolutely for sure that the site is a real shop site and not a scam site. I know mcafee siteadvisor tells you if you go to a scam shop site. You have to remember that for things like windows 7 that most likely legit online stores will sell it for around the same prise as Microsoft, maybe a little bit cheaper for competition but you must remember that if it looks too good to be true, most likely it is to good to be true and is a scam. If you find anything like windows 7 for like half the normal prise most likely it is a fake or a pirated copy so be careful guys.
Here in germany you can buy OEM (System Builder) Versions everywhere. Due to a Federal Court ruling Microsoft is forced to sell these to regular Users too. You get a Full Version at a lower price than an Upgrade. The only things missing are the colourful Packaging an the two Support-Phone-Calls.
How can it be in Germany?!! The Domain was registered in Russia. Billing Contact Organization: n/a Billing Contact Address1: Kalinina d. 139 Billing Contact City: Semikarakorsk Billing Contact State/Province: Rostovskaya oblast Billing Contact Postal Code: 346630 Billing Contact Country: Russian Federation Billing Contact Country Code: RU Billing Contact Phone Number: +911.8644194
I didn't say this domain is in Germany. All I wanted to say was that it could be perfectly legal (and normal) to buy and own a OEM version, which in fact can be a digital version. But I don't know anything about russian or us laws
If you buy an OEM version: 1. Can you change hardware after you have activated and accepted by WGA? 2. Is it possible if you have bought a 32bit licence and than switch later to 64bit, using the same OEM key?
For anybody that has doubts about the product keys available on ebay, I just purhased a key for Win 7 Ultimate for $47 US,I thought it was worth a gamble and it paid off,it validated! I used the key on the Win 7 Universal......
It would be interesting if you can use one of the key checking tools to see if it's truly "Retail" across the board or if it's indicated as MSDN channel. If it's someone misusing an MSDN / Technet account, you still have decent odds of it eventually getting blacklisted and shut off. I still have plenty of doubts about those eBay keys. Just because you got it validated for now means little.
I've just checked with Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool and it reports that validation is genuine and product id type is 5 - Retail.
MSDN keys are Retail key type, but with different eula type, which pidcheckers don't show, but you can do it manually by looking for Activation Configuration ID or PartNumber.. Here's the list (from pkeyconfig.xrm-ms) for all PID ranges of MSDN keys: Windows 7 Ultimate Retail ActConfigId {a0cde89c-3304-4157-b61c-c8ad785d1fad} PartNumber X15-39004 EulaType MSDN Start 65000000 End 73249999 Windows 7 Ultimate N Retail ActConfigId {dca01e19-01f5-4ce1-98b1-35fb7a323806} PartNumber X15-39006 EulaType MSDN Start 76000000 End 86999999 Windows 7 Professional Retail ActConfigId {770bc271-8dc1-467d-b574-73cbacbeccd1} PartNumber X15-39009 EulaType MSDN Start 220000000 End 228249999 Windows 7 Professional N Retail ActConfigId {c63f22b5-fdaf-4488-aeac-cc19411d0243} PartNumber X15-39011 EulaType MSDN Start 165000000 End 175999999 Windows 7 Home Premium Retail ActConfigId {3b965dfc-31d9-4903-886f-873a0382776c} PartNumber X15-39013 EulaType MSDN Start 231000000 End 240249999 Windows 7 Home Premium N Retail ActConfigId {b68cc682-9531-4b6c-bb5e-202c92a59946} PartNumber X15-39015 EulaType MSDN Start 134000000 End 144999999 Windows 7 Home Basic Retail ActConfigId {6c7afc31-950c-4fa8-93ee-3e880aa97e5d} PartNumber X15-39017 EulaType MSDN Start 112000000 End 120249999 Windows 7 Home Basic N Retail ActConfigId {ca400347-52d3-45a2-a333-f7d4c33b6af5} PartNumber X15-39019 EulaType MSDN Start 123000000 End 133999999 Windows 7 Professional Retail ActConfigId {e838d943-63ed-4a0b-9fb1-47152908acc9} PartNumber X15-39021 EulaType MSDN Start 838000000 End 842124999 Windows 7 Professional N Retail ActConfigId {0bdb55f8-df23-41e9-bd76-a3b9cc40d7ca} PartNumber X15-39023 EulaType MSDN Start 823000000 End 823274999 Windows 7 Home Basic Retail ActConfigId {b1184982-a958-4643-8e66-445fa0f92832} PartNumber X15-39025 EulaType MSDN Start 925000000 End 926628570 Windows 7 Ultimate E Retail ActConfigId {18aa7613-98ff-4820-9b69-1f69105ebba8} PartNumber X15-89121 EulaType MSDN Start 73250000 End 75999999 Windows 7 Professional E Retail ActConfigId {78c95341-4f01-4e52-808a-e2f90fc56f71} PartNumber X15-89123 EulaType MSDN Start 228250000 End 230999999 Windows 7 HomePremium E Retail ActConfigId {903e621f-f23c-4ba0-b8de-40c3affff57d} PartNumber X15-89124 EulaType MSDN Start 240250000 End 242999999 Windows 7 HomeBasic E Retail ActConfigId {88e1193d-e891-41c4-b517-3a305a013695} PartNumber X15-89125 EulaType MSDN Start 120250000 End 122999999 Windows 7 Professional E Retail ActConfigId {36c9cf6d-4b2b-4311-8552-e36d8c601781} PartNumber X15-89126 EulaType MSDN Start 842125000 End 843499999 Win 7 Home Server Standard (of course if it'll ever be released) ActConfigId {13d1b96c-1375-43a4-99e7-7e7fefe21f53} PartNumber X14-18918 EulaType MSDN Start 477000000 End 477999999 Win 7 Home Server Premium (the same comment) ActConfigId {26186aee-5833-4d48-b59d-a1a29c8cbc2d} PartNumber X14-18917 EulaType MSDN Start 355000000 End 355999999
