The point is that you don't need *any* installer. You need the wim and dism, or to have something more friendly the wim and winntsetup.exe Way less time needed and way more convenient procedure. Use the old school setup only for in place upgrades

This has nothing to do with GUID partitions (perhaps I never use them). It works on MBR and GUID, it works on physical disks or vhds. I guess you never tried. Just do it, you'll never go back
Sorry, I'm afraid I'm not getting what you mean. Perhaps the obvious way when you mod a live OS, and you don't know if the mod really works, is using a VM and it's restore point. A native vhd easy to replace with ONE copy command is another way.
