Hi all. Just been asked to install a clean version of XP onto a Dell Dimension 4600. This i have tested with one of my spare HDD. No probs a home made Windows XP Pro SP3 Dell OEM disc installs XP and it validates nicely. All drivers work a treat, they will be happy. I thought i may treat them to Windows 7. Thinking of flashing the BIOS to hold SLIC 2.1. Checked on the forums to see if anybody else has done one of these and came accross threads saying this board can NOT be done. I have just used the tool to mod the BIOS and it says it was succesful ! I am very warey of flashing the BIOS with his file, dont want to brick owt. I did however flash the latest official Dell BIOS A12. Worked fine. Can anybody tell me can this board be done or not ? Anybody tried, succesfully or not ? i would rather take a working XP machine back than take a fancy looking door stop back.. cheers..
I have a Dell dimension 4600 that I use as a sacrificial Lamb (ie testing rig) It has the A12 BIOS and has Slic 2.1 installed and running Windows 7 Ultimate. And to be honest, I have NOT HAD ANY ISSUES! The system is stable, fast and has not shown any adverse reactions to the Slic being installed.
Where did you get the Dell Dimension 4600 bios with the SLIC 2.1? Can you please post a link to download it? Thanks.
Most likely done with Andy's tool (that made the hassle much less of an issue - THANKS Andy!), right? sebus
Can you post a step-by-step for me? I'm a capable IT pro, but the post for Andy's tool has been re-written so many times it is difficult to discern exactly what steps are required to slip the SLIC table into the BIOS for this specific model. Thanks for any help you can offer. (Sorry to reply to such an old thread)
If anyone was wondering, this will not update the bios on a Dell Dimension 4600C Does anyone know where I can find a SLIC 2.1 mod for the "C" model
